Job Summary

Eagle Ford Overview
The liquids-rich Eagle Ford tight oil trend, located in the Western Gulf Coast Basin of South Texas, represents the company’s second-most prolific unconventional resource development. ConocoPhillips was one of the first companies into the liquids play, resulting in a low-cost entry into this acreage. In 2009, the company began exploring the development potential of this play and by year-end 2022 held approximately 199,000 net leasehold and mineral acres, primarily in DeWitt, Karnes, and Live Oak counties.
During 2022, 153 operated wells were brought online, bringing total wells online at year-end to more than 1,700. Net production in 2022 averaged 220 MBOED.
Description
If you are selected as the Development Geologist, you will be responsible for planning and execution of the development program in the Eagle Ford. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to support significant rig activity and lead subsurface characterization and development optimization for assigned areas.

Job Description

Responsibilities may include:

  • Collaborate and lead engagement with key stakeholders to identify high value projects and provide recommendations to management for the drilling of development wells
  • For the assigned area, work closely with asset reservoir engineer to optimize the plan of development and ensure alignment of subsurface considerations with the commercial/economic evaluation to deliver the premised plan
  • Work closely with the Wells organization on all aspects of development execution from well planning through to drilling and completion, supporting geological prognoses and data acquisition and risk mitigation plans
  • Generation of maps and integrating all available data (e.g. production, petrophysics, geochemical and core data, 2D/3D seismic data) to high-grade and prioritize drilling location inventory
  • Partner with the completions team to develop a geologically grounded stimulation plan
  • Conduct and/or coordinate after-action reviews on development well programs
  • Assist in evaluation of third-party acreage submittals and/or property acquisitions
  • Monitor industry activity using public data and industry networks for pad planning
  • Work closely with Eagle Ford Land to acquire acreage or extensions of core area as well as required agreements for project implementation

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Master’s degree or higher in Geoscience, other related technical field, or foreign equivalent
  • 3+ years of upstream oil and gas industry experience

Preferred:

  • 1+ years of experience working unconventional resource plays
  • Proficiency with stratigraphic, structural interpretations, regional evaluation, well tops and correlation, well design and planning, landing target analysis
  • Advanced understanding of D&C, Projects, Operations, development/subsurface, land regulatory, and field operations
  • Ability to make/influence decisions and communicate effectively with management
  • Proven track record of effective collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Displays innovative thinking with a drive towards continuous improvement
  • Creative thinker that is willing to challenge paradigms
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
