Classification: Salary, not OT-exempt
Reports to: Coffeehouse Excellence Manager
Compensation: $70k annually + incentive bonus

About the Job

At our heart, we are a retail coffee company. Maintaining an excellent retail café experience is critical to our success; it is the most important work that we do. And so, the job of a Manager is among the most important in the company.

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall guest and employee experience by hiring and training a team of top-performers. They demonstrate a complete understanding of G&B/GGET values and standards, including the 10 Principles of Customer Service, and use their mastery to foster a shop culture centered on the company’s ethos. The GM sets a high standard of technical acumen and service excellence for the employees of the shop and holds them accountable to attaining those standards in a fair and positive manner.

The GM utilizes the shop P&L statement and other regular reports to make informed decisions on the shop's ordering, scheduling, and revenue generation. They also stand to benefit personally from the success of the shop, through an incentive-driven compensation system. The GM oversees a team of Shift Managers and Team Members to help achieve their cafe’s goals while developing a bench of future leaders.

This position will generally require  around 45 hours per week, and it is essential the GM can work weekends. A majority of the GM's time will be spent working on the floor of the cafe every week. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Build a team of top performers
    • Hire a great team
    • Asses performance of Team Members and Shift Managers to determine readiness for promotion
    • Devote more energy to supporting and energizing top performers while managing out under-performers
  • Ensure that training systems are active and achieving desired results
    • Own training that is delivered to Shift Managers and Team Members
    • Create development plans that deliver excellent training within the shops
    • Hold regular 1:1 check-ins to assess progress of development plans
    • Effectively facilitate training on new menu items, processes, SOPs, and technical skills
  • Create super-effective schedules
    • Meet labor goals without compromising guest/employee experience
    • Schedule self for maximum labor efficiency and greatest strategic impact to guest/employee experience and team development
    • Know your business by day-part (morning, evening, weekend) and day-of-week through hands-on experience and regular Shift Manager and Team Member check-ins
    • Aces in places: have the right people in the right places to meet the business’ needs
    • Ensure training is reflected on the schedule and is happening at the appropriate times
  • Deliver a safe food environment and an excellent guest experience
    • Complete weekly QC report for your cafe
    • Achieve a letter A grade in internal QC report that meets and exceeds the standards of all local regulatory agencies
    • Ensure excellent cafe environment by performing walk through on every shop visit
    • Connect with guests during every shop visit to gather feedback on their experience
  • Make strategic decisions that achieve desired results on the shop P+L
    • Review shop results (sales, orders & pars, waste, labor) daily/weekly/monthly and adjust as necessary
    • Create goals with your Shift Managers that drive towards desired results
    • Partner with Marketing to create strategic events that meaningfully foster community while supporting the desired results of the P+L
    • Exercise managerial courage when making tough decisions that will affect the bottom-line

Other Job Duties

  • Attend weekly management meetings
  • Give clear and direct feedback to staff in accordance with GGET feedback training guidelines, both in real time and during structured feedback settings
  • Execute all duties of FOH at the highest level measured by the GGET training program. Execute all duties of the other discipline at a level of baseline functionality
  • Address common facilities maintenance issues autonomously and escalates any unique or special issues appropriately
  • Organize shop-specific events and programming
  • Works with team to maintain inventory to ensure availability of all our offerings and products
  • Find inventive ways to increase revenue

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of G&B/Go Get Em Tiger values and standards, including the 10 Principles of Service, as outlined in the company training documents
  • Foster an inspiring, team-first atmosphere for all employees (FOH and BOH), ensuring that they are all working in service of the same goal: delivering great products with exceptional hospitality
  • Effectively delegates tasks, involving senior team members in the inner workings of shop operations and management
  • Hold the team accountable to meeting the high standard of GGET team performance
  • Build long-term customer loyalty
  • Create and perpetually improves systems that are universally applicable in the store and can be implemented with ease
  • Maintains a safe environment for all employees and customers
  • Must posses a food safety manager certification or be willing to attain one within the first 30 days of employment
  • Availability for both weekend days and overall schedule availability
  • Must be able to provide reliable transportation to/from work and for work-related errands
  • Must be proficient with Email, Google Drive, Slack and Microsoft Office

Experiential Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of proven management success in a high-volume and/or quality driven food service environment is a must
  • Previous work experience in a high-volume specialty coffee setting is a plus
  • Experience managing diverse teams
  • Experience with P&L statements

Physical Requirements, with or without a reasonable accommodation

  • Ability to move about the cafe space frequently throughout shift
  • Ability to operate job related tools, such as espresso machines and coffee brewers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers
  • Ability to frequently move prep items in bins weighing up to 40lbs
  • Exposure to kitchen environment with hot surfaces
