Normal Work Schedule (Other):: The Agency's standard business hours are Monday to Friday (8:30 to 5:00) but a flexible work schedule is available, to include a 4 day work week.

A four (4) day workweek is available!
Responsibilities
  • You will work at the South Carolina Fire Academy's campus to perform troubleshooting and repairs to all types of electrical equipment, panels, circuit breakers, wiring, starters, contactors, lighting equipment and electrical generators.
  • You will perform routine maintenance work on all type of electrical equipment, exhaust fans, air handlers, thermostats, control equipment, dampers, and gas burner units.
  • You will perform preventive maintenance and repairs to buildings, fire alarm system, and firefighting training props.
  • You will perform preventative maintenance and repairs to State vehicles, trailers and lawn care equipment.
  • You will ensure Fire Academy tools, equipment, and training aids are maintained and in good condition for programs, and perform other maintenance work or duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • A high school diploma and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of experience and a Journeyman level qualification.
  • Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and supplies used in the designated trade.
  • Knowledge of techniques, methods, requirements and practices used in the designated trade.
  • Skilled in the use of various trade tools and equipment.
  • Skilled in making emergency and general repairs and adjustments to direct and evaluate the work of subordinates.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
Other Requirements
  • Must have a valid driver's license and 10-year MVR that complies with State and Agency Fleet guidelines.
  • Must be able to drive a state vehicle to complete assigned job duties.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb and use variety of ladders.
  • Must be able to work in noisy and smoky environments.
  • May be placed on-call and may have to work occasional weekends and Holidays.
