Hourly Wage: $29.70/Regular/Full-Time
Responsible for providing financial information to management and auditors by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports. Will verify and post various transactions such as cash receipts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciling, work with revenue and expenses. Responsible for analyzing journal entries, supporting documentation, and affected accounts and working with program bookkeepers to ensure validity. Incumbent has overall responsibility of ensuring the accuracy of all accounting entered into the accounting system.
Examples of Work Performed:
Review and make necessary account adjustments where applicable.
Review and prepare fiscal notes and make recommendations to the Accounting Manager and Assistant Accounting Manager.
Provide programs with accurate, clear, and consistent financial data on a regular basis, keep good communication to stay up to date.
Analyze particular facts of financial transaction problems/ issues, verify and evaluate data; obtain additional information to reconcile discrepancies or inconsistencies.
Provide support for specific reconcilement reports and/ or audits which are relied on in part or in whole to produce daily, monthly, periodic statements and reporting trees.
Reviewing and processing accounting documents.
Communicate with tribal programs regarding program fund balances and assist with final expenditures to close out fund balances.
Assist with the preparation of year-end financial statements for the annual single audit.
Review and post bi-weekly payroll, adjusting as necessary.
Distribute monthly financial statements, including payroll and fringe reports.
Ensure financial compliance according to existing policies and procedures while meeting state and federal requirements.
Assist in preparation of annual 1099 verification.
Communicate with Grants & Contracts on any issues with Journal Entries.
Reconcile bank statements monthly.
Review bank accounts and detect fraudulent claims.
Report fraudulent claims to bank and Accounting Manager and Assistant Accounting Manager.
Work with bank to correct discrepancies and irregularities found in accounts.
Prepare, properly store, and maintain accounting documents for up to seven years.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Knowledge of 2 CFR Part 200(Superseding OMB circulars A- 87, A102, A- 133).
Knowledge of basic principles, practices, and procedures of Governmental Fund Accounting.
Knowledge of computerized accounting and financial reporting systems.
Knowledge of the Yakama Nation Finance Manual, Travel Policies and Purchasing Manual.
Skilled in the use of computer software including Excel spreadsheets, Word, and online Banking.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Ability to analyze financial data.
Ability to work independently when required.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent and at least five years working in accounting with strong General Ledger knowledge.
Must pass a pre-employment background check.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field such as Business Administration, Finance or Public Administration that includes at least 12 semester hours in accounting.
