Job Title:General Clerk III
Job Description: The General Clerk III maintains and updates personnel files for assigned permanent party military personnel and coordinates Officer Candidate School (OCS). The GC III processes centralized and semi-centralized promotion actions and all personnel actions, boards and ensures all personnel records are current and up to date. The GC III is responsible for in and out-processing Soldiers and knowledge of the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) which issues cards to military, family members, retirees, DA Civilians, and contractors.
Duties and responsibilities of the General Clerk III include, but are not limited to:
  • Performing specialized clerical duties such as record-keeping and managing forms and information
  • Responding to inquiries by retrieving information in file systems
  • Independently complete recurring work, in line with the quality and timeliness criteria set by the supervisor, requesting help with unfamiliar problems
  • Receiving instructions regarding new and revised rules, regulations, policies, and procedures or precedent decisions, and on difficult or unusual work at the time of the initial assignment and during its progress
  • Performing a variety of procedural and substantive clerical works in one or more military personnel areas
  • Learning and providing the related steps, processes or methods needed to carry out all duties and responsibilities
  • Processing personnel actions
  • In-processing and out-processing military personnel
  • Updating Emergency Data Forms (DD Form 93)
  • Uploading documents to iPERMS as required/needed.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Must have a working knowledge and experience in the utilization of automated HR systems of record including, but not limited to, eMILPO, DA-ISM, PERNET, EDAS, TOPMIS, ATRRS, PERSTEMPO, DARTS, AKO, and email/local area network.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Business Suite.

Supervisory Responsibility: None.
Work Environment:
The operations will conduct business between the hours of 0730 and 1600 hours Monday thru Friday except Federal holidays or when the Government facility is closed due to Federal Holidays, local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar Government directed facility closings. The work schedule may vary based on mission requirements. Work will be performed at Building 33720, 307 Chamberlain Avenue, Fort Gordon, GA 30905, unless designated to conduct duty at another local on a permanent or semi-permanent basis.
Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods, be able to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, ramps, and poles. Employee must be able to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. Employee must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal and do extensive reading. Physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the duties described in the work environment.
