Job description

SUMMARY

The Gas Turbine Project Engineer III is responsible for planning resource utilization processes and reporting on resource utilization for engineering support activities for high complexity Gas Turbine Service Engineering projects.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

    • Own the engineering resource scheduling and workload leveling production system.
    • Maintain view of forecasted work for outstanding proposals as it relates to engineering availability.
    • Take task estimates for proposals from Systems Engineering and Engineering Managers/Leads and develop proposed schedules based on engineering availability.  Communicate with Service Projects and commercial teams to develop proposals that engineering can support. 
    • Communicate deadlines for LOA/PO on commercial teams' proposals to meet target outage dates.
    • Own engineering task schedule for committed upgrades and product implementations.  Host status meetings, distribute minutes, maintain the Action Item list and provide outage level schedule risk reports (red, yellow, green).
    • Resolve engineering priority conflicts with affected stakeholders.
    • Make schedule performance and resource allocation visible.
    • Perform impact analysis of priority conflicts and communicate with stakeholders to resolve.
    • Provide guidance to other Project Engineers to provide routine reports that enable progress assessment, engineering resource availability, and resource consumption and make recommendations on improving these reports.
    • Follow the planning and implementation of new products to ensure that emergent engineering action items are addressed.  This interaction will involve communications with LTSA, Field Service, Manufacturing, Purchasing and other relevant MPA organizations.
    • Engages and coordinates with Service Projects to integrate engineering milestones into the overall project schedule, and feedback project milestones and need dates into the engineering schedule.
    • Ensures engineering project tasks are created and promptly distributed in Windchill following complete instruction from engineering team members.
    • Engages with Systems Engineer and Engineering Managers/Leads to improve engineering schedule fidelity on a continuous basis.
    • Leverages past projects experience to identify unconsidered risks or gaps in the communicated tasking.
    • Obtain a fundamental understanding of the purpose and role the engineering tasks have within the larger project's success.  
    • Perform other such duties as may be required.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Some overnight travel by land and/or air (expect 5 to 15% of typical work schedule allocated to travel).
  • Maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times.
  • Must be permanent resident of the United States due to export control restrictions.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EDUCATION

      • Education and/or Experience:BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering from an accredited college or university, or past practical experience in the area of schedule and resource management of six (6) years or more. A minimum of 6 years engineering experience is required (some work credit may be given for MS or PhD degrees based on the relevancy of course and related project experience).
      • Language Skills:Ability to read and interpret documents such as industry reports and technical journals. Ability to write progress reports and correspondence including customer updates. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to customers, clients, vendors and other employees of the organization.  External presentations will be reviewed and supported by Engineering Management prior to customer or client interactions.
      • Mathematical Skills:Ability to perform necessary calculations to satisfy job requirements.
      • Reasoning Ability:Ability to make judgment decisions based on management direction, specifications or technical requirements.
      • Computer Skills: Advanced personal computer skills including MS Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, Visio and Project) and specialized scheduling applications with emphasis on Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Windchill ProjectLink, MS Power BI or other similar applications.  Understanding of networked enterprise level scheduling applications, e.g., P6 or MS Project Professional.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee's working environment maybe loud.  The employee may be required to adhere to MPSA and customer safety procedures including but not limited to, the use of personal protection equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, goggles, hearing and fall protection).
