Position OverviewThis is an on-campus summer opportunity for students interested in Social Media, and content creation.
The KU Creators is a program from KU’s marketing department that is designed to highlight the student POV on the University of Kansas’ flagship Social Media channels.
We are seeking a creative and passionate student to join our team of Social Media Content Creators. This program offers the unique opportunity to collaborate with the KU flagship social team and craft engaging content that showcase our vibrant campus life at KU from the student’s POV.
As a KU Creator, you will play a vital role in bringing authentic student voices to our flagship Social Media channels. Working closely with the KU social team you will craft content that engages with viewers and allows them to experience campus like through a student’s lens.
In addition to content creation, you will explore emerging social trends in higher education, maintain a consistent university voice on Social Media, actively help contribute to online conversations about KU.
This position is ideal for students with a passion for Social Media, storytelling, and a deep sense of school spirit. Join the KU social team in showcasing the KU brand online, and what it means to be a Jayhawk.
Job Description40% - Content Creation
  • Collaborate with our editorial, digital media, and design teams to create content for various social platforms including IG stories, IG Reels & TikTok.
30% - Research Social Media Trends
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in Social Media & the higher education industry.
20% - Planning Social Content
  • Share ideas for content creation, both written and visual.
10% - Community Engagement & Social Listening
  • Create, listen to, and participate in the social conversation about KU.
Required Qualifications1. During the semester term of the appointment, the Student Hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the Student Hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
2. Coursework or work experience that illustrates strong attention tot detail as evidenced in application materials.
3. Evidence of strong communication & content creation skills, as demonstrated in application materials.
4. Basic knowledge of Social Media platforms. (Instagram, TikTok, Twitter & Facebook) as evidenced in application materials.
5. Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines as demonstrated by previous work history or coursework.Preferred Qualifications1. Ability to take direction and work independently while also being responsive and accessible during your assigned work hours.
2. A team player with self-initiative, a strong work ethic, and a positive and collaborative attitude.
3. Understand Social Media voice and can communicate professionally.
4. Experience creating and/or engaging with TikTok content.
5. Experience managing Social Media channels and creating content for multiple platforms.
6. Have a passion for the University of Kansas and an eagerness to share that with other Jayhawks around the world. Additional Candidate InstructionsA complete application will include:
