Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the NiSource's Gas Transmission and Distribution systems. This position is responsible for ensuring supply is adequate to serve our residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Duties include participating in a 24-hour, 7-day shift rotation. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise Gas Control Operations and Controllers ensuring safe and reliable service for customers.
- Safely balance overall daily gas demand with supply such that adequate swing is available.
- Develop daily supply strategy which includes line pack, storage, LNG, supplier targets, system pressure and flow requirements.
- Participate in daily planning meetings with internal and external department personnel.
- Work and communicate effectively with internal/external departments and gas suppliers in a very dynamic environment.
- Troubleshoot abnormal system and alarm conditions utilizing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and or PI Datalink analytics. Effectively report abnormal system conditions to the appropriate field personnel.
- Ability to perform duties effectively under normal, abnormal, and emergency situations according to Control Room Management (CRM) Roles and Responsibilities document. Implement Gas System Emergency Operating Plans when required.
- Supervise Gas Controllers and correctly apply provisions of the collective bargaining contract (Hammond, IN Only).
- Achieve and maintain DOT Operator Qualification (OQ) for Gas Controller duties.
- Perform Gas Controller duties as needed to cover vacancies or support operations.
- Work extended hours, varying shifts, and participates in a standby rotation when necessary.
- Develops and recommends methods, measures, and standards for monitoring Gas Controllers to improve individual performance.
- Comply with all professional training, ethics policies, and uphold core values of the department and company
- Performs all Supervisory responsibilities within the function
- Assumes the responsibilities of Superintendent Gas Control as needed.
Required Qualifications for Position:
- A Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or another quantitative discipline.
- Consideration will be given to a two-year degree or other training with 5+ years' energy industry experience.
- Must successfully pass Console Operator Basic Requirements Assessment (COBRA) aptitude evaluation.
- Must pass color blind test to distinguish between colors.
- Must be able to pass DOT random drug & alcohol testing.
- Must reside within a 1-hour commute to Primary Gas Control Center.
- Excellent planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficient understanding Pipeline & Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA) Control Room Management (CRM) procedures and regulations.
- Achieves and maintains Department of Transportation (DOT) Operator Qualification (OQ) for Gas Controller duties.
- Have knowledge of, or ability to learn and troubleshoot, fluid dynamic and thermodynamic concepts including pressures, flows, and gas laws.
- Possess intermediate to advanced PC skills, especially proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to explain advanced concepts in a way that a person with little gas or mechanical background can understand and become competent at controlling the NIPSCO Gas Transmission System.
- Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
- Bachelor's degree accredited college in Mechanical, Electrical or Petroleum Engineering, Engineering Technology, Data Analytics, or another quantitative discipline with relevant experience.
- Possess a working understanding of the State and Federal Regulatory requirements, gas transmission systems, and gas energy markets.
- 1+ years of work experience in a gas utility or related industry.
- Firm understanding of engineering principles, especially as they relate to energy, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics.
- Experience leveraging Pi Datalink and Pi Vision for data retrieval and visualization, and Tableau for metric analytics and communications
- Knowledge of and/or experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
- Demonstrated management or leadership experience.
- Experience administering a Bargaining Unit agreement

Salary Range:
$91,000.00 - $136,600.00
