Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill one part time (a maximum of 20 hours per week during academic terms and a maximum of 40 hours per week during academic breaks) Garden Ecology Lab Field Assistant position for the Department of Horticulture at Oregon State University ( OSU ).
This position will assist a Ph.D. candidate in the OSU Garden Ecology Lab conduct research on native plants and pollinators, at the Oak Creek Center for Urban Horticulture on the OSU Campus in Corvallis, OR.
Position Duties
Position Duties:
- This position will help document traits of native plants and cultivars derived from native plants at Oak Creek.
- Specific traits and measures will include plant height, color, pollen nutrition, and nectar quantity.
- Data collection and database management tasks will be performed in the Garden Ecology Lab, in the Ag and Life Science Building on campus.
- Additional field tasks will include general field plot maintenance, including weeding and watering.
- Additional lab-based tasks may include digital image analysis and science communication (i.e. social media posts or blog posts for the general public).

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

- Interest or coursework in botany or entomology.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the sciences.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
- Previous lab or field experience.
- Previous data collection or data management experience.
- Photography skills.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
- We expect that this position will work 10-15 hours during the spring term, and 20-30 hours during the summer.
