Position Overview
The CLS Garden Center Associate is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the retail store, Garden Center, and retail grounds by performing cashier duties, customer assistance, merchandising, inventory control, and maintenance. The Garden Center Associate will care for annuals and indoor plants in the greenhouse, Garden Center, retail grounds, and outdoor settings, and participate in the sale of nursery products and Garden Center merchandise, curating professional and creative displays for plants, garden décor, and seasonal items.
Job Duties
Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions*):
- Perform various tasks in the retail store, Garden Center, and retail grounds as directed, including cashier duties, assisting customers, merchandising, inventory control, and handling maintenance responsibilities. *
- Provide care for annual, house, tropical, and perennial plants, shrubs, trees, and fresh evergreen decor, in both the greenhouse and outdoors. *
- Assist in the sale of nursery products and all other Garden Center merchandise. *
- Create and maintain professional and creative plant, garden décor, and seasonal displays. *
- Receive merchandise while adhering to the Point of Sale (POS) system procedures. *
- Preserve the quality of merchandise by controlling conditions that may lead to inventory shrinkage, such as watering, weeding, fertilizing, preventing breakage, and addressing theft concerns. *
- Provide excellent customer service by meeting and listening to the needs of the customers with appropriate recommendations. *
- Operate a two-way radio effectively for communication purposes. *
- Available to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings, weekends, and some holiday hours. *
- Available to work weekends from March through December. *
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and work rules.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Required: Experience working in a fast-paced constantly evolving environment.
- Required: Basic computer and math skills.
- Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Loading with material handler experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, stretching, bending, kneeling, and sitting.
- Adjust quickly and efficiently from task to task with little to no effort.
- Communicate clearly in a professional and understandable manner.
- Lift up to 50 pounds for extended periods of time.
- Stand, walk at, and around the work site.
- Bend, reach, lift, carry, hold, grasp, twist, sort, and organize.
- Observe and judge the distance of objects.
- Regular and timely attendance.
