Nursery Associate

Purpose and Scope: Waynesboro Landscape & Garden Center is an award-winning Landscape Architecture and Construction Company for residential, commercial, and municipal landscaping. In addition, the Garden Center sits on over five acres and is home to a full-scale nursery, garden supplies, and gift shop. We are seeking motivated and dependable individuals with strong customer service skills to fill key roles in our Garden Center operation. The Nursery Associate roles require the ability to develop excellent customer relationships by utilizing communication skills, acute attention to detail, plant knowledge, and the ability to perform as part of a cohesive team.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Always interact with customers in a positive, courteous, and upbeat attitude, with a primary focus on customer service and satisfaction.
• Greet customer by name, when possible, and develop rapport and customized service and buying patterns.
• Assist other team members as needed
• Assist customers with purchases and provide alternative solutions / products
• plant maintenance including watering, fertilizing, pruning and tagging.
• unloading supplier-plant deliveries
• making a delivery of plants and plant material, light installation work
• assisting customers with plant location and knowledge
• ability to work on some / most Saturdays and occasionally assisting with watering plants on Sundays from May to Sept.
• ensuring property is well-maintained at all times
• Other company related duties as requested and assigned

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• A basic knowledge of plant care
• Familiarity with different types of plants
• Experience in retail sales
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• General administrative skills
• Dependability and attention to detail
• Ability to perform physical tasks outdoors in all seasons including standing for long periods of time

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

The Nursery Associate role reports to the Nursery Supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience/Training: Experience in serving customer needs preferred.

Additional Requirements: Valid driver’s license & clean driving record. Experience with dump truck (non CDL), skid steer, fork lift preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform basic physical tasks normal to the landscaping industry, including but not limited to kneeling for extended periods, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing ladders, bending, crawling, lifting at least 50 lbs. and be able to work with arms above head level at times; must be able to work in hot and cold temperatures and in adverse weather and job site conditions. Must be able to perform basic tasks consistent with an office environment including but not limited to sitting at a desk for long periods of time, bending, crouching or kneeling to access files from ground level to 4.5 feet above the ground, pushing/pulling of file drawers, reaching in all directions and working at a computer and/or telephone for prolonged periods of time. The following capabilities are required but not limited to: able to see for purposes of reading instructions, labels and other printed matter; ability to operate computer hardware and peripheral devices; able to hear and understand speech at normal levels in person and/or on the telephone; able to communicate verbally so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person and/or on the telephone.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
