Responsibilities:
- Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting and storing specimens.
- Operates laboratory equipment and performs routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs.
- Performs quality assurance activities.
- Maintains adequate stock of supplies and manages the inventory by transporting and distributing supplies. Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
Certifications:
- None required.
Complexity of Work:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
- Requires three months on-the-job training to learn department laboratory procedures, instrumentation and CCF policies.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation.
- Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed.
- Requires frequent sitting or standing.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
