The Division of Visual and Performing Arts and Education invites applications from energetic, innovative and collaborative educators and theatre practitioners to join McMurry University's thriving theatre program, starting in August, 2024.
This is a full-Time Faculty position; possible tenure track, with the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor, depending upon qualifications.

Essential Duties Summary
Teaching a full-Time Faculty load, university service, and scholarly activities. Service includes, but is not limited to committee service, academic advising, student recruitment. The candidate will also assist in student recruitment activities.
Responsible for oversight of scenic design and technology for all productions; teaching courses in design, technology, technical theatre, and some general theatre courses; producing quality theatrical scenery and scenic elements that complement and support theatre productions and presentations; working with students to construct, fabricate, and finish scenic elements to full completion within production timelines and standards; assisting with oversight of inventory, acquisition, organization, management, repair, and installation of technology and tools in the scenic area; supervising and training student leaders and crews in scenic area(s); working with other faculty to develop curriculum and projects aimed specifically to students with goals and interests in the field of Design/Technology/Management; providing a focus on innovating and advancing ideas and practices in theatrical design and technology; advising and mentoring students; contributing to the artistic and intellectual growth of the Department, College and University; participation in the work of faculty and the Department; working within professional networks and organizations beyond the University; and continuing to develop their own artistry and gain experience in the field.
Required Qualifications
• Master's degree, MFA, or other terminal degree in Scenic Design or related area of theatre design, or technology
• Academic experience in teaching, mentorship, and/or leadership
• Experience working in a theatrical setting (educational or professional)
• Industry knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience of technology practices, design, and construction/fabrication
• Extensive knowledge of safe use of equipment and safety standards
• Demonstrated drafting skills and proficiency in CAD, VectorWorks, and/or related technology
• Collaborative and open attitude
• Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students and faculty in an integrated arts approach
• Ability to recruit and retain students with design/tech/management career interests and goals
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to demonstrate responsible leadership, judgment, and productive relationships
• Ability to build and foster a positive and inclusive work environment
Minimum Required Education
Master's degree
Preferred Qualifications
• MFA in Scenic Design or related area
• Three to five years of experience in university setting
• Three to five years of experience in professional theatre
• Valid state driver's license and ability to occasionally drive 24' box trucks
• Strong interest in construction and fabrication
• Industry knowledge of design, construction, and technology practices across multiple disciplines
Physical Demands
Working with power tools, electrical equipment, and wiring.
Working at great heights.
Lifting heavy items.
Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility.
