AIRPORT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR - AIRPORT DIVISION

PAY GRADE: GRADE 17: $56, 690.02 TO $85, 035.02 Annual Salary ($27.25 - $40.88 Hourly Rate). Rate dependent on applicant qualifications. Typically hire at minimum.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE AIRPORT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
This position supervises, assigns, and reviews the work of staff responsible for airport facilities and maintenance, oversees and participates in all work activities, and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. Receives direction from the Airport Manager. Exercises direct supervision over technical, operations, and security staff.
AIRPORT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff responsible for maintaining airport facilities in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives for assigned program including airport facilities maintenance services; implement approved policies and procedures.
- Establish schedules and methods for providing airport facilities maintenance services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
- Participate in the selection of maintenance staff; provide and/or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies.
- Participate in the preparation and administration of assigned program budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
- Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
- Continuously monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement and review with the division manager; implement improvements.
- Act as Alternate Airport Security Coordinator, available 24/7, in the absence of the primary Airport Security Coordinator as a secondary Point of Contact (POC) for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
- Become Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting (ARFF) trained, annually, as an ARFF vehicle operator who responds to incidents on short notice with the required ARFF airport-based vehicle pending the arrival of a full Fire Department team.
- Manage grounds for weeds and groundcover by utilizing herbicide chemicals. Obtain a State of Utah Commercial Pesticide/Herbicide Applicators license.
- Prepare and train subordinates on the TSA requirements and document this training.
- Serve as liaison for the assigned division with other city departments, divisions, and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve significant and controversial issues.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
- Provide responsible staff assistance to the division manager; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay informed of new trends and innovations in the field of airports & public works maintenance related to assigned area of work.
- Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
- Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employees are required to use on-site equipment.
- Respond to emergency operations that may be required during normal hours and during non-business hours.
- Provide meaningful input to the Airport Manager on the required maintenance of the Airport Security Program (ASP) and the FAA FAR 139 Airport Certification Manual (ACM).
