ROLE OVERVIEW:
The primary function of this role is to provide check in and check out functions and preauthorization/precertification for services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following list describes the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here.
- Check in patient and confirm patient demographics, scan documents into database and verify insurance coverage. Confirm collection of co-payment and outstanding balances and collect fees if not previously collected.
- Check out. Schedule offsite diagnostic tests by providing the patient with the appropriate preparation instructions and make appointments by phoning the test site. Record tests ordered. Check insurance to see if precertification is needed. Schedule patient for next appointment if necessary, enter appointment into computer and provide patient with accurate appointment card.
- Check out. Schedule patient for any appointments with referral physicians and document appointment in the medical record. Communicate appointment time and location to patient. Have patient sign necessary disclosure forms and send forms to appointment schedulers.
- Assist other departments with related work as needed and requested
Want to join us?
- Graduation from High School or GED equivalent.
- Previous work experience in a physician office or medical related position, knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity of filing insurance claims and HIPAA regulations required.
- A minimum of 2 years as a Front Office Assistant in a physician office
