Scope of Work
The Front Desk Attendant is responsible for greeting and welcoming customers, answering the phone and transferring calls to co-workers, processing registrations and payments, looking up events and programs on the master calendar, printing class rosters, and answering diverse informational questions. In addition, various office duties, such as copying, filling, typing, data entry and organizing will be performed.
Work Location
Wood Dale Recreation Center, 111 E. Foster Ave., Wood Dale, IL 60191 and various parks and facilities throughout the District
Contact with Others
This position involves regular contact and interaction with both internal and external customers.
Hours
General hours of work are weekday mornings, afternoons, and evenings and weekends. Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule based on the operational needs of the Park District. The Front Desk is open the following hours:
Monday – Thursday – (first shift) 8:30am – 3:00pm (second shift) 3:00pm – 9:00pm
Friday– (first shift) 8:30am – 3:00pm (second shift) 3:00pm – 8:00pm
Saturday – 8:00am – 2:00pm
Sunday – 8:00am – 12:00pm
Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrates Park District customer service standards.
- Answers the telephone, transfers calls and takes accurate messages for staff.
- Performs various office duties, including but not limited to, filing, copying, data entry, typing, etc.
- Processes registrations, refunds, transfers and maintains accurate status of programs.
- Maintains a good rapport with all customers and provides exceptional customer service.
- Opens and/or closes the entire facility when needed.
- Maintains a current and accurate knowledge of all Park District programs, special events and facilities as well as those within the community.
- Follows Park District and departmental safety, personnel and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances.
- Attend staff training sessions as scheduled.
- Communicates with staff through oral and written communication.
- Assists other staff with various projects/assignments, as directed.
- Attends work on regular basis.
Other Job Functions

Requirements of Work
- A minimum age of 18 is required for this position
- High school diploma or GED Certificate; some college coursework preferred
- Prior office and/or customer service experience preferred
Knowledge of:
- Recreation software, Activenet knowledge preferred
- Microsoft Office
Ability to:
- Capacity to work in a year-round position with a variety of weekday, weeknight and weekend shifts
- Ability to handle a variety of tasks/situations at one time.
- Ability to be patient and courteous.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.
- Ability to accurately handle monetary transactions
Skill in:
- Microsoft Excel and Word
- Capacity to learn Activenetwork recreation registration software
- Ability to speak and write effectively
- Capacity to demonstrate strong leadership skills
Necessary Special Requirements:
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 30 days of hire; First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.
