The Front Desk Agent position at the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) exemplifies the importance of delivering an approachable and polite first impression to visitors, vendors, and customers in person and over the phone. The Front Desk Agent provides administrative support to the Executive Assistant in the Office of the Secretary, in the areas of Front Desk management, personnel, fiscal, and procurement related duties.
How does it get done?
- Welcoming office guests and directing them to the person or office they are visiting.
- Managing, cleaning and maintaining an organized workspace in the Front Desk area.
- Answering all incoming calls to the General Office and routing accordingly.
- Answering guests' and employees' questions in person and over the phone.
- Performing light administrative duties upon request of the Executive Assistant in the Office of the Secretary, including creating payment vouchers, processing purchase orders, per diem requests, and working in Statewide-Human Resources-Accounting-Reporting (SHARE) Financials system on a regular basis.
- A strong focus on providing excellent customer service.
- May also handle and route customer complaints and other issues, accordingly.
Who are the customers?
The Front Desk Agent position serves as the first point of contact for all visitors, customers, and vendors for the General Office of NMDOT and provides administrative support to the Executive Assistant in the Office of the Secretary.
Ideal Candidate
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge and experience with SHARE Financials system.
- Financial experience including processing per diems, payment vouchers, and payment processing in SHARE Financials system.
Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or Equivalency and two (2) years of experience in office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management and/or contract management. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
