Expected Length of Internship: 

3 to 6 months, preferably in summer of 2024

  • As an internship company, we allow flexibility to enroll in classes while working as an intern, as long as it doesn't interfere with the essential functions of the position.

Experience:     

  • Chemistry or chemical engineering, particularly aqueous electrolyte-based electrochemistry
  • Wet chemistry and any other chemical-related work experience would be a plus
  • Materials Science &Engineering, particularly nano-materials or thin film synthesis
  • Physical vapor deposition   

Education:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in chemistry, electrochemistry, or chemical engineering, or materials science engineering 
  • First Solar encourages all interns to register their internship with their University.

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Electrochemistry and inorganic chemistry; Materials Science & Engineering; Characterization of thin-film 

Basic Internship Scope (Project): 

  • Carry out aqueous solution based electroplating experiments under supervisor's instruction
  • Conduct physical vapor deposition of thin metal oxide film
  • Set up a lab DC power supply equipment
  • Preparation of electrolyte using chemicals 
  • Manual cutting of 10 cm X 10 cm glass coupons
  • Edge-grinding of glass coupons
  • Conducting the electrochemical deposition (ECD) experiments 
  • Recording the experimental parameters
  • Conduct optical and electrical measurements of thin film glass coupons 
  • Project: Physical Vapour deposition (PVD) of metal oxide film, and electrochemical deposition (ECD) of metal oxide film; Characterization of thin films made by PVD vs ECD. This project would directly benefit CuRe buffer program if successful. 
  • Upon the completion of this internship, the intern is required to present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team.

Estimated Salary Range:

$17.50-$27.72/hr.

US Physical Requirements: 

May need to carry up to 10 pounds of lab equipment. 

Manufacturing & Maintenance Physical Requirements:

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will lift up to 51 pounds on an occasional basis, according to work instruction.
  • Will lift up to 37 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Will push or pull up to 27 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Will push or pull up to 10 pounds of force on a frequent basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis.
  • 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without correction) and the ability to distinguish between red, yellow and green is required.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, cut resistant gloves, jackets, aprons &/or arm guards, safety glasses, hearing protection).
  • All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).                               

Hybrid Physical Requirements:

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will lift up to 51 pounds on a seldom basis, according to work instruction.
  • Will push or pull up to 27 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, (with or without correction) and the ability to distinguish between red, yellow and green is required.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).

Project Site (non-craft) Requirements:

  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)

Office Physical Requirements:
