The Position
The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position ofFRIENDLY STARS PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR to fill multiple vacanciesin the Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.
The Instructor position within the Friendly Stars Program presents a rewarding opportunity to contribute to a recreational and social initiative tailored for Adult adaptive learners. This program is meticulously crafted to provide participants with a diverse range of activities that cater to their unique needs. As an Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe and supportive environment where individuals can engage in various activities, fostering social interactions and cultivating a sense of community. The Friendly Stars Program is not just an educational endeavor; it is a platform for promoting camaraderie and personal growth among adult adaptive learners. Joining this program means being at the forefront of facilitating meaningful connections and empowering individuals to thrive.
Instructors, under general direction, provide specialized recreation and/or education programs at various locations throughout the City. This is a broad class designed to cover several diverse areas of expertise that will allow the City to hire individuals with the skills and knowledge appropriate to the planned activity.

Work Performed
Duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
- Organize and record participant registration into the program.
- Plan and conduct a variety of recreational activities and special events.
- Supervise staff to operate the full scope of the program.
- Work with volunteers to set up weekly and special event programs.
- Record attendance and encourage participation in program activities.
- Generate reports using computer programs (M/S Word, Excel, ActiveNet, etc.).
- Foster a wholesome atmosphere where participants are treated with respect and dignity.
- Handle emergency and non-emergency situations that may arise during program hours.
- Adhere to a flexible work schedule which may include evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED).
Highly Desirable Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in creating extracurricular activities for adaptive learners
- Possess and maintain a valid CPR and First Aid certification

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Proof of education listed in your application will be requested at the time of conditional offer. Acceptable documentation consists of transcripts or degree by the accredited U.S. college or university.
Education obtained outside the United States (US) require one of the following options:
- An equivalency statement from an evaluation company certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) at or the Association of International Credential Evaluators Inc. (AICE) at
- An advanced-level degree from an accredited US college or university.

All temporary employees are automatically enrolled in a mandatory Deferred Compensation plan in lieu of Social Security.
