This position is located in the District of Columbia Government, Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS), Latent Fingerprint Unit. The incumbent works in the Latent Fingerprint Unit (LFU) and under the Forensic Science Laboratory Director. The Technical Leader provides expert technical guidance and advice and oversees the technical aspects of the LFU analysis programs, with the specific objective of ensuring that those programs maintain best practices, technical relevancy, and compliance with accreditation requirements and quality assurance standards.
Oversees the LFU laboratory quality system to ensure compliance with all associated quality standards pertaining to ANAB ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and ensures generally accepted Latent Print analysis standards {i.e. The Organization of Scientific Area Committees for Forensic Science (OSAC)} are being adhered to by the LFU. Recommend process changes to the Unit Manager. Conducts and oversees research; develops, validates, and implements new laboratory analytical procedures deemed feasible by management.
Qualifications
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as referenced above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Licensure and Certifications: Latent Print Examiner Certification by the International Association for Identification (IAI).
