Job Description
Dates: June 2 - July 28th (Monday - Friday)
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
This position is responsible for administering and supervising the food planning, purchasing, preparation and service to the camp. Maintain health and safety standards, safe food standards, ACA standards and a sanitary kitchen. The Food Service Manager must be able to supervise cooks, assistant cooks, and kitchen aides; identify and respond to hazards; plan nutritious menus, order food, and prepare and present tasteful food; able to operate Food Service equipment such as slicer, mixer, ovens, stoves, dishwasher, and other tools used in normal Food Service. Must have the ability to lift heavy loads.
Requirements:Plan balanced menus within budget; posts daily menus.
• Orders food and supplies through approved vendors; checks food delivery against food orders. Store food and other supplies.
• Train and supervise kitchen staff, including kitchen aides.
• Cook, trim, portion, carve/bake, etc. portion meats, vegetable, salads, breads, deserts, etc.
• Directs and supervises the work of the cooks and kitchen aides.
• Responsible for ensuring that proper food sanitation procedures are practiced at all times in accordance with state and local requirements as well as the American Camp Association standards in Food Service.
• Works with unit staff to plan and prepare pack out meals.
• Keeps running inventory and records; makes necessary reports as requested by Camp Director.
• Ensures cleanliness of kitchen and dining area.
• Meet with the Camp Director and/or administrative staff as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen.
• Knowledgeable in all state and local health requirements for Food Service and hold required certifications.
• Be a currently registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA or willing to become one.
• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Hold a current food handler’s certification.
• Have previous experience supervising others.
• Ability to work with children, other staff, and trades people.
• Flexibility in planning menus for children and special events.
• Be able to meet state and local health requirements
• Hold a current driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and lifting 20 – 75 pounds.
• Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
SAFETY
All staff must be conversant with the safety rules and regulations. They must take reasonable steps to ensure their own health and safety, and that of anyone else who may be affected by their actions. They should inform their manager/supervisor of any hazard with which they are not trained to deal.
