Position Description
The Cook position involves preparing and presenting menu items for service. They adhere to a preparation list for executing menus and contribute to the daily functioning of the kitchen. Responsibilities may encompass large-scale preparation, catering preparation, receiving products, and maintaining cleanliness. The Cook is responsible for assisting with cold prep, salad, and grab-and-go production using specified recipes. Additionally, they are expected to serve food on the hot food line while adhering to food safety regulations. The Cook is expected to receive and properly store all food deliveries.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Cook food according to assigned tasks, following directions and standardized recipes.
2. Fulfill all preparation tasks for the next day's production based on production sheets and assigned recipes.
3. Attends to day-to-day problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies; detects and ensures disposition of spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies/equipment, and/or other unusual conditions.
4. Transport food and supplies to and from the kitchen in a hygienic manner.
5. Take and document temperature readings for all food items.
6. Serve food on the hot line and prepare side orders, ensuring outstanding presentation Sets up Food Service, kitchen, or salad area facilities, equipment, and utensils, under detailed instruction, in accordance with specific area needs; checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations; operates cooking and bakery equipment.
7. Conveys food and supplies from the main kitchen, bakery, and/or salad preparation area to the serving site.
8. Follows prescribed procedures in setting up hot and cold food lines; chooses proper utensils and sets the steam line to the appropriate temperature for menu items.
9. Prepares hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes, beverages, salads, sandwiches, pie fillings, simple bakery items, salad dressings, and/or other similar food items, as appropriate to the position.
10. As appropriate to the position, serves food items to customers from counters and/or steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served.
11. As needed, replenishes foods, silverware, glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations; may order and replenish condiments.
12. May clean and maintain work areas, including floors, facilities, utensils, and equipment; collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers; takes out garbage; as appropriate to the area of operation.
13. May perform cashiering duties, as required.
14. May provide guidance and training to other employees performing related work.
