Preble Street’s Emergency Food Services help meet the nutritional needs of our community members through our Food Security Hub, Mobile Food Services, Food Pantry, and shelter-based meal service sites. Preble Street has adapted how it provides food services to effectively meet the food needs of people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity—and our team of food services professionals work together in our innovative Food Programs toward achieving our goals to address and end hunger in our communities.

 

An exciting, full-time Street Outreach Specialist position is available with Preble Street’s Food Program. In collaboration with the Foods Security Hub and the Street Outreach Collaborative program, this hands-on role will join a dedicated, diverse team of staff members and volunteers in food pick up and distribution with Preble Street vehicles as well as maintaining orderly systems of receiving donated and purchased food. While working on-site at the agency’s warehouse, kitchens, and pantry spaces, the Street Outreach Specialist will also work with the collaborative, mobile outreach team, delivering high-quality meals and necessities to people in the community who are unsheltered and other identified food insecure areas.

 

The regular schedule for this full-time position is Sunday - Thursday, 8:00am - 4:00pm.

Qualifications

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study, or comparable combination of education and relevant Street Outreach experience and commercial or institutional foodservice, or other culinary experience will be considered.

 

Specific qualifications include alignment with Preble Street’s mission; positive regard for individuals accessing services for homelessness and poverty, and a commitment to providing low-barrier services; strong organizational and communication skills, and experience working in a team setting with a diverse population; demonstrated skills in outreaching individuals in a variety of environments; effective crisis intervention skills; availability to work weekends and consistent, reliable attendance at work as scheduled; and ability to drive a small cargo truck with a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.

 

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position, with a pay rate of $19.91/hour. Generous paid time off, insurance, and retirement plan benefits include:

  • 4 weeks (160 hours, accrued) vacation time, 12 days (96 hours, accrued) sick time, 16 hours personal time, 12 Paid Holidays

  • 403(b) retirement plan w/ employer match
