Come join our team of experienced teachers to support children with disabilities in an integrated preschool classroom! Our focus is helping children to learn and grow through play in a strength-based environment. Children in our classrooms are aged between 3-5 years old, and classroom support includes Special Education Teacher, Teacher Assistant, and Teacher Aides, along with Daycare Teacher and clinical services, such as Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies. This is a 12 month position, and follows the daycare calendar. The Floating Teacher Aide position spends time in each of the seven classrooms.
Position is 40 hours per week and pay rate is $17 per hour. This position is fully benefits eligible.
- Provide support for the individual children in classrooms as assigned
- Support the general needs of the classroom with the supervision and leadership of the classroom teacher
- Review IEP and relevant information concerning the children in the program with the classroom teacher to support the implementation of the instructional and social-emotional development of the children
- Effective communication as a member of the team, including participation in appropriate meetings
- Complete personal and program record-keeping as assigned
- Observe therapy sessions to provide continued support for carry-over of skill development within the educational setting, following therapist’s guidance
- Contribute to a positive work and learning environment for children in program as well as co-workers – must be professional, courteous and confidential
- Provide ideas and show initiative to help develop the educational setting
- Accept feedback/guidance from the classroom teacher and site director
- Sustain regular attendance according to work schedule as well as team and site meeting as requested by head teacher or site director
- Provide direct care support to children i.e., toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting and positioning
- Attend training required by program regulations, including OCFS regulations, and as directed by supervisor
- Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED; fingerprinting clearance; clearance from the New York State Central Registry
- Skills/Abilities: Effective written, verbal and communication skills
- Knowledge: One (1) year of related experience
- Physical Requirements: Ability to physically assist children to participate in the program; ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds; ability to engage in repetitive movements such as sitting/kneeling on floor, bending and stooping; ability to move quickly to attend to a running child. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
