Role Summary
The Technical Editor and Publication Specialist I is responsible for producing, distribute, and maintain regulated manuals, documents, and information for Flight Crews, Dispatchers, and Management staff at Alaska Airlines. This role provides support cross-divisionally for technical publications and communications via multiple distribution platforms. As an individual contributor, the role uses relevant knowledge, know-how, and skills to edit, fact-check, and collaborate with technical professionals to produce technical manuals with a high degree of adherence to applicable regulatory and operational safety policies.
Key Duties
  • Prepares and publishes bulletins for pilot web page supporting various departments within the division.
  • Performs structured and unstructured authoring to draft, edit, and format content for technical manuals. Converts content and graphics ensuring information is presented accurately for publishing, including adherence to deadlines, processes, and standards.
  • Reviews content/graphics from various sources, and converts into appropriate software, documents, and bulletins while adhering to applicable regulations and standards.
  • Distributes published information to web, managed servers, mobile devices (Electronic Flight Bag), and occasionally printed material to Stores for aircraft flight deck.
  • Provides input and collaborates with subject matter experts for project requirements and workflows.
  • Provides input for appropriate formatting/layout and written content of documents.
  • Coordinates with vendor for printed manuals and ensures timely shipping to meet aircraft distribution schedules.
  • Prepares and replaces manuals for pilot use in aircraft simulators and training classrooms.
  • Maintains inventory for aircraft manual supplies and simulators, including audit checks for simulators.
  • Troubleshoots and provides support to end users for published manuals/bulletins.
  • Updates electronic, master, and historical files, ensures information is archived per company standards.
  • Develop positive, productive working relationships across organizational levels and work cooperatively with peers within and outside of the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
  • Bachelor's degree or 2 years' experience in editing/publishing or related field; knowledge of airline operations helpful.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to comprehend and evaluate complex processes.
  • Detail-oriented and organized to prioritize workload requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a collaborative team to produce accurate and timely results for a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
  • Decision-making skills with the ability to follow through to successfully complete projects within the defined schedules.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18 and must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred
  • Intermediate level experience with Adobe Suite (Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver), Adobe Framemaker, xml, and/or publishing applications.
  • Knowledge of MS Teams and Outlook.
  • Intermediate experience in editing/creating graphic illustrations.
  • Ability to work with complex processes, systems, applications, and software to recommend appropriate changes and perform troubleshooting.
  • Experience with html/xml, style sheets, and/or web design.
  • Familiarity with structured authoring or content management systems.
  • Experience creating electronic documents for mobile publishing related software, web interfaces, and applications.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate issues, troubleshoot, and identify solutions for process improvements.
  • Self-motivated to develop leadership skills and own their career path thru training and opportunities.
  • Ability to obtain SIDA badge.
  • Knowledge of airline operations helpful.

Salary Range
$60,400 - $84,600 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
