Position Information


TxDOT Flight Services Airport and flight Scheduling support needs you! We are the state's Fixed Base Operator (FBO) located on the East side of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. TxDOT Aviation serves all types of aircraft from many state agencies to include the Department of Public Safety, Texas Parks and Wildlife Development, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and of course our own fleet of vehicles. We manage 4 hangars and an FBO requiring tight scheduling, planning and administrative support and that's where you come in! Bring your skills and help Texas take to the skies.

Position Description


Coordinates and assist overseeing the support functions for providing air transportation to state officials and employees travelling on official state business using State of Texas aircraft. Coordinates program activities involving aircraft operations and related activities to include public relations, planning, scheduling, administrative, information technology, safety, and ground/flight services. Assist as a primary point of contact and responds to any emergency or after-hours events involving state travel emergencies or incidents, as required. Assist in the collection, organization, analyzes, and preparation of materials in response to requests for information and reports. Work requires extensive contact with governmental officials, state employees, public and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor, manager, and or lead employee. Some knowledge and or experience in airport management and operation.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists lead flight coordinator with airport operations in association with Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) that includes assisting with tracking and implementation of current and new airport programs.
  • Keeps abreast of current aviation and aircraft developments to include industry guidelines/standards, applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Creates and modifies "Daily" and "Future" Flight Services flight scheduling activities.
  • Coordinates in aircraft selection/replacement procedures and decisions.
  • Participates in program planning, development, and implementation.
  • Responsible for organizational safety standards and procedures for all ground operations and aircraft fleet personnel.
  • Trains other employees.
  • Assists with the implementation and utilization of AVN Flight Services software for aircraft scheduling, maintenance tracking, pilot currency tracking, and billing customers in accordance with state and deferral code.
  • Assists the lead flight coordinator with safe Flight Operations by scheduling training for flight line personnel and assisting aircraft maintenance team with administrative and flight equipment maintenance record keeping.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 4 years of experience in Aviation flight services, airport operations, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent).

Substitutions: College education and/or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to outside environmental conditions; possibly with no effective weather/temperature protection, below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
  • Subject to noise, moving hazards (vehicles/mechanical parts), high places, or chemicals/fumes/dusts with possible poor ventilation
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc
  • Stooping and Crouching-bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist, bending legs and spine
  • Reaching/Pushing/Pulling-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction, using upper extremities to press/pull against object with force to move in a direction
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
  • Fingering and Grasping-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
  • Talking and Hearing-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words; receive information by oral communication
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading, determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
