General Purpose of Job 1st Class

This position is responsible for repairs and general maintenance on all types of cooperative fleet vehicles and equipment; conducts safety inspections, oil changes, and lubrication work; installation of mobile communications equipment; and maintenance of hydraulic systems and other aerial lifting devices associated with the vehicle fleet.

                                                                                       2nd Class

This position works alongside assigned technicians conducting safety inspections, oil changes, lubrication work, basic maintenance and minor repair of all vehicle fleet and equipment; installation of mobile communications equipment; and assists with maintenance of hydraulic and other aerial lifting devices associated with the vehicle fleet.

 

Minimum Required Qualifications and Competencies

1st Class

Education

  Minimum         High School or GED

 

  PreferredTwo (2) years of vocational/technical training in general vehicle maintenance on gasoline and    

diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems and welding.

 

  Preferred          ASE certification in any auto or truck mechanical area.

 

  PreferredInitial Fluid Power Certification or ability to obtain as required by the position.

 

Experience

Minimum 

Four (4) years recent and ongoing progressive experience in diagnostic repair and maintenance of light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles including welding, mobile hydraulic systems and diesel emissions.

 

Preferred 

Experience with a utility vehicle fleet maintenance operation or related industry.

2nd Class

  Minimum        High School or GED

 

  PreferredTwo (2) years of vocational/technical training in general vehicle maintenance on gasoline and   

diesel engines, hydraulic and electric systems and welding.

 

  Preferred         ASE and Fluid Power certifications or ability to obtain as required by the position.

 

Experience

 

  Minimum         Two (2) years recent and ongoing progressive experience in repair and maintenance of light,                                        

                             medium and heavy duty vehicles including welding.

  PreferredExperience with utility vehicle fleet maintenance operation or related industry.                        

  PreferredExperience or similar work with an electric utility or related industry.

 

Other Requirements                                        1st & 2nd Class

  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer, printers, copy machines, telephone, and fax machine.
  • Ability to work irregular hours for assignment completion and flexibility to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during emergency situations.
  • Frequent business travel to all areas of service territory required.
  • Valid Florida Class A or B Commercial driver’s license without air brakes restriction and without number 5 Tractor-Trailer restriction, Class B CDL must be upgraded to Class A within one year, for regular driving privileges of cooperative vehicles; must have and maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by the Cooperative.
  • Successful completion of SECO Energy’s DOT employment entrance examination and drug screen.
  • The normal work week consists of five (5) consecutive eight (8) hour days, Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 midnight.
  • Irregular hours in evenings and on weekends are possible during peak business times and during storm season.
    • The Cooperative will determine if an eight (8) hour or ten (10) hour schedule will be used and shall establish the normal schedule of starting and quitting time.
    • Shift schedules may be changed by giving a 36-hour notice of the changed schedule.
    • Flexibility to work overtime for assignment completion and to report to work on short notice during emergency situations; ability to work on-call and respond to callouts, as needed, and maintain the Cooperative standard for Call-Out response after working hours.

 

Living Requirement 1st & 2nd Class

  •     Employees in this classification must live within a 40-mile radius from the assigned reporting work location. Employees who live a greater distance from the work center must relocate within their first six (6) months in this position. A maximum of ninety (90) minutes will be allowed for response to callouts.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1st & 2nd Class

  • Ability to apply substantial judgment, follow detailed instructions and solve minor problems.
  • Ability to utilize computer diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment to accomplish projects and meet deadlines; ability to handle stress and pressure in a frequently changing environment; ability to multi-task calmly and effectively in all situations.
  • Basic mathematic skills with ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Demonstrated skill in personal computer operation and knowledge of MS Office products; ability to enter and extract data and acquire skills in the use of applicable corporate software programs as they relate to the position.
  • Effective communication skills including written, verbal and listening and a customer service attitude to effectively interact with employees, management, contractors, vendors and the public.
  •       English is the primary business language.  Second language in Spanish is desirable.

 

              1st Class

  • Thorough knowledge of hydraulic systems, current gas  and diesel engines, electrical & electronic systems, drive trains, emission controls and proper and safe use of the tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work, including but not limited to, digital volt ohm meter, hydraulic flow and pressure gauges; ability to utilize computer diagnostic tools and equipment.

 

            2nd Class

  • Ability to acquire knowledge and become proficient in repair and maintenance of hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to work with oils, greases and gas/diesel.
  • Knowledge of repair and maintenance on current gas and diesel engines, electrical and electronic systems, drive trains, emission controls and proper and safe use of the tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work.

  • Detect mechanical and electrical faults by using instruments that check charging systems, ignition and fuel injection systems.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Perform annual DOT inspections; general inspections and repair of hydraulic equipment noting all maintenance requirements and submit recommendations for major mechanical requirements.
  • Perform safety inspections, oil changes, lubrication work, basic maintenance, and minor repairs as directed.
  • Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
