This is semi-skilled mechanical work in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of automotive and related equipment. Employees work closely with fleet mechanics and perform repairs on county automotive and gasoline/diesel-powered equipment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Fleet Mechanics Supervisor or designee and is evaluated through periodic inspections of work performed; by accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness of tasks completed. Tasks are performed in accordance with applicable Federal and State safety standards, in a timely manner, and in accordance with the industry time standards
- Duties include but are not limited to, performing routine preventative maintenance tasks, equipment inspections and safety checks, diagnostic review of vehicle malfunctions, and course of corrective action.
- Performs regular general housekeeping and facility maintenance duties, delivers, picks up, and returns parts and equipment to outside vendors, and performs other related duties as required.
- Maintains records of tools and materials used and completes work orders accordingly.
- Must have the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Must have knowledge of the tools, equipment, principles, and practices related to the repairs.
- Must demonstrate the skill to operate tools and equipment related to vehicle mechanics and to perform repairs utilizing technical manuals and diagnostic software.
- Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one-year of experience in maintenance and repair of automotive gasoline or diesel-powered equipment.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record is required.
- Requires the ability to work productively in the absence of supervision, use good judgment, and effectively solve problems.
- May include but is not limited to the ability to lift to approximately 80 pounds.
- This position will only operate commercial vehicles on county property.
- Perform drive-up repairs such as tires, lights, batteries, lubricating, and general cleaning.
- Work under the guidance of lead tech on more skilled repairs.
- Work involves responsibility for performing routine tasks in servicing automotive equipment, including changing oil and water.
- Perform general custodial duties in maintaining service area buildings.
- The work hours and days for this position are Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
