- Interacts with customers/drivers to properly determine the nature of complaint once assigned a task.
- Utilizes key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available.
- Works safely in accordance with the Safety Plan, Departmental Safety Plan, applicable laws, regulations, and supervisory directives.
- Performs a wide variety of entry level mechanic repairs and maintenance services on light trucks, cars, tractors, and diesel powered heavy equipment to maintain equipment in operational readiness.
- Performs inspections, preventative maintenance, and/or repairs to the fuel, ignition, electrical, braking, air conditioning, hydraulics and other systems in vehicles, tractors, and equipment to ensure all are maintained in a safe and operational condition.
- Schedules and perform preventative maintenance on City vehicles.
- Utilizes Fleet Software to create, update, and close out Work Orders.
- Orders necessary parts as needed and maintain control of parts inventory.
- Maintains a clean and orderly Fleet Shop.
- Communicates with customer and document customer concern/request.
- Confirms the accuracy of the repair order and obtain repair/service authorization.
- Documents information about recommended services performed or declined.
- Maintains customer appointment log and establish completion expectations.
- Demonstrates professional communication skills
- Diagnoses and repair city vehicles and equipment.
- Assists with fuel processing and distribution.
- Interacts with other divisions, departments, and the public, coordinate and schedules activities between groups.
- Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Scope of Supervision
Works under general supervision of Fleet and Facilities Supervisor.
Work Environment
60% of work in an office environment and 40% in fleet shop. Continuous outdoor and indoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards, occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying up to 100 pounds, lifting up to 100 pounds. Outside construction and machinery activities performed under normal field operations. Exposed to seasonal temperatures while operating and maintaining heavy construction equipment. Possibility of exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, materials and inclement weather while in the field.
