Fitness Specialist

General Description

Under the guidance of the Fitness and Wellness Director, the Fitness Specialist will support and contribute to a program focused on customer service, safety, cleanliness, and improving the overall health of our clients. This position will work with various clients, helping them achieve various fitness goals including weight loss, muscle gain, or general overall health. The Fitness Specialist will promote fitness through different strategies and health programs.

How You Will Fulfill Your Mission

• Provides operational fitness/wellness services under the direction of the Fitness Wellness Director.
• Assists the Fitness/Wellness Director in completing monthly and annual reports for NASA.
• Assists the Fitness/Wellness Director with other administrative issues (incident reports, member surveys, site-specific policies).
• Assists Fitness/Wellness Director in communicating with agency and members about Fitness Center policies and procedures.
• Tracks membership statistics, including membership numbers and member attendance.
• Performs administrative work to include orientation of fitness facility, provide facility oversight and attend meetings.
• Leads 30-60 minutes of strength training, cardiovascular, and core exercise classes, several times a week.
• Monitors and assist clients to ensure proper form is used when exercising and the safe and effective use of equipment.
• Assists in ensuring the safety of employees, members, and fitness center property by determining when equipment or facilities need repair and communicating to the Fitness and Wellness Director in a timely manner.
• Responsible for designing exercise programs for members based on members goals, fitness testing, and individual health coaching.
• Provides general nutritional guidance and counseling.
• Provides outreach presentations, write professional communications, fitness advertising and marketing; this includes creating flyers and updating various communication boards.

Specific Knowledge/Certification Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or related field; or a minimum of 10 years’ experience in lieu of a degree.
• Current CPR and first aid certifications.
• At least (1) National certification from at least one of the following is required:
  • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
  • American Council on Exercise (ACE)
  • National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
  • National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)

• Work Environment: Work will mainly be performed in a fitness center setting and occasionally with irregular hours.
