The Fitness Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating wellness programs, as approved by the Wellness Manager. Supports, promotes and instructs residents and employees in all areas of fitness; aquatic and land exercise classes, fitness room instruction and supervision, and individual exercise programs. Must have a thorough understanding of the Fitness Center’s equipment and procedures. Interacts and motivates residents and employees in a positive and constructive manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Exercise Physiology or related field.
- Certification in Group Exercise, Aquatic Exercise and/or Personal Trainer.
- Certification as a Pool Operator per the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) with Certification in CPR.
- Experience working with a Senior Living Community- Independent Living, Assisted Living, Health Care and Memory Support.
- Ability to develop, implement and coordinate a staffing schedule which meets the
- program needs in all levels of care.
- Ability to oversee administrative duties in the absence of the Director of Resident
- Programs & Services.
- Ability to understand resident’s limitations and effectively develop exercise classes
- which meet the needs of residents, in all levels of care.
- Ability to be creative, organized, motivated and show initiative in all areas of assigned
- duties
- Ability to effectively communicate with residents, employees, family members and
- guests.
- Ability to function within the regulations established by governmental agencies.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees and/or develops, implements and evaluates all resident wellness programs in all levels of care.
- Evaluates the fitness status of residents and staff, and implement appropriate programming to enhance health and fitness.
- Maintains a record of wellness programs and events. Records shall include monthly attendance statistics in all levels of care.
- Reviews and Reports occurrences with the Director of Resident Programs & Services on a regular basis, to and in absence of the Wellness Manager.
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to residents, family members, guests and/or employees.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all resident or employee personal information.
- Demonstrates a positive, supportive attitude to residents, employees, family members and guests at all times.
- Observes the Residents’ Rights and Responsibilities at all times.
- Accepts all other duties as assigned by the Wellness Manager, Director of Resident
- Programs & Services, Administrator of Health Services and/or Executive Director.
