JOB SUMMARY
To provide quality service to LifeCenter and community members. To facilitate the performance of exercise activities for members and guests in a safe and pleasant environment and ensure assistance is available when needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates a commitment to the mission of Galter LifeCenter and demonstrates a service orientation and adheres to all responsibilities and standards of the LifeCenter.
1. Provide a welcoming and safe environment for all Members & Guests.
- Build positive relationships with members and guests, maintaining professional boundaries.
- Based on ACSM guidelines; provide instruction on proper technique and guidelines for maximizing exercise effectiveness. Make yourself aware of members and guests who appear to need help.
- Strive to learn the names and fitness interests and needs of those members who frequent the club during your regular shifts.
- Keep the Fitness Floor safe and clutter free, document any faulty equipment – ensure that signage is up when appropriate.
- Be able to provide communication about equipment repair, emergencies, and concerns of the members.
2. Assist with exercise programs, and market appropriately our health promotion programs.
- Keep informed of activities and services offered by the LifeCenter; recommend when appropriate.
- Assist members in implementing exercise programs appropriate for their goals, age, abilities, preferences and health concerns.
- Know, understand, and follow additional job requirements as stated in the Fitness Specialist job manuals.
- Begin to learn the process of fitness testing and exercise prescription
- Stay informed of new developments in the health/fitness industry.
3. Respond to and document emergencies and incidents according to established procedures.
- Document any unsafe exercise conditions and report to the proper supervisor.
- Inventory and fill first aid supply needs.
- Know and follow procedures related to emergency situations.
4. Computer skills.
- Become proficient in using our membership software, scheduling software, and assessment software.
- Develop knowledge and skills in technological systems: zoom, live streaming, virtual platforms and other industry technical systems.
5. Other Functions
- Always wear Fitness Specialist uniform when working on the Fitness Floor.
- Attend regular staff meetings and in- services
- Assist with class set up – including virtual, attendance, and other duties as needed
- Ensure member’s follow proper etiquette/policies; address and document any issues.
- Be proficient in taking blood pressure and heart rate.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
- One of the following is required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Exercise Science related field
- Currently enrolled in an exercise science program in Junior/Senior year with Core competencies completed
- Associates Degree in exercise science related field with licensure or NCCA certification in fitness/health care (i.e. ACSM, ACE, NASM, NCSA, PTA License)
- Certified through a national accredited organization not required but an asset
- Prior work experience in Fitness/Health related field not required but an asset.
- Interpersonal communication: ability to effectively offer direction.
- Knowledge of proper use of all exercise equipment and testing procedures.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
- CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACT
- Daily contact with members, guests, and staff
ENVIRONMENT
Highly visible, high activity, exposure to exercise equipment. Some lifting and/ or pushing of exercise equipment may be required.
