Year-round part-time administrative hours between 20-23 hours per week. Additional hours are available for Personal Training, and Group Exercise Instruction. Hours are flexible and can include early morning, daytime, evening and weekend shifts. Position includes Paid Time Off, Participation in the Illinois Municiple Retirement Fund (IMRF), Flexible Work Hours, and a Free Fitness, Pool and Beach membership as well as discounts on other park district programs. The hiring pay range for administrative hours will be between $21 - $26 per hour depending on qualifications.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Fitness Center Supervisor oversees Personal Trainers, Group Fitness Instructors, and Fitness Associate desk attendants. Assists Fitness Manager in overall Fitness Center operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee one-on-one and group training programs to optimize the fitness needs of the clients.
- Organize training on-line (Zoom, etc.) and/or in-person sessions.
- Conduct 2-3 group fitness classes per week.
- Provide back-up coverage to fill in with group classes or personal training, including conducting assessments. assigning appropriate exercise activities, and tracking progress, as needed.
- Facilitates personal training sales.
- Supervise and provide ongoing coaching and support to personal trainers, and fitness instructors.
- Must wear proper fitness attire (shirt, proper shoes, no hats).
- Maintain positive relationships with the members and staff.
- Perform the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, and procedures.
- Must attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
- Responsible for giving feedback to supervisor on facilities, staff and programs.
- Assist with fitness marketing (monthly promotions, club challenges and email campaigns).
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned. (5k runs, Health fairs, scheduling).
- Support & exhibit the established mission, vision and organizational values.
- Oversee, recruit, and train fitness desk staff. (wipe down equipment, bathrooms, counters, etc).
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified through national organization (ACE, AFFA, NASM, ACSM, ISSA). Adult CPR with AED training and First Aid certificate.
- Prefer college course work from an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education, focus on anatomy, and basic knowledge of fitness principles.
- Prefer 4 years of experience providing personal training to clients.
- Prefer 1-2 years of experience supervising staff.
- Demonstrated success in physical training sales.
- Technology experience to oversee on-line training.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and a strong background in providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to oversee, design and implement training programs for clients.
SUPERVISION
Under the general direction of the Fitness, Aquatics and Racquet Manager, the individual must be self-motivated and capable of supervising Fitness Associates, Personal Trainers, and Group Fitness Instructors. The individual will perform projects as assigned. Guidance is provided through departmental policies, Park District operating practices and procedures, and other resources as applicable to the specific project assigned. Work is evaluated at least annually, with respect to problem-solving ability, customer service, research, and analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills, and performance in accordance with this classification standard.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally must aide or assist participants. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must have a high degree of energy and have the endurance to complete the workout.
