Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate

Firefighter I Certificate

Valid EMT-P (Kern County EMS within 60 days)

AHA BLS CPR Provider Card

Firefighter endorsement or Commercial Class B Driver’s License

Ability to pass an initial drug and alcohol test and a DOJ background check

PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE OF JOB:Under general supervision, to conduct inspections of occupancies for compliance with Federal, State, and local fire and life safety codes; to perform related work; to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; to perform at an incident in the capacity of firefighter or fire apparatus operator; to protect life and property through firefighting and EMS activities often performed under conditions which require strenuous physical exertion; to perform other related duties as assigned. Major elements of a Firefighter/Paramedic's work are the participation in code enforcement activities performed by fire companies, supervised drills, and training in firefighting and EMS skills: Work at the fire station and scenes of fires, is normally performed in accordance with well-defined procedures, and is inspected in process and upon completion by a Fire Captain. Firefighter/Paramedics may be assigned to work on special assignments which call for special abilities and knowledge attained through experience and training.
