Salary Range: $55,000.00 - $78,417.00
Acts as a professional member of the pre-hospital emergency care team in providing comprehensive basic and advanced life support treatment, care and transportation. General firefighting work in combating, extinguishing, and preventing fires and protecting life and property.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES: All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employee may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
- Knowledge of practices and procedures in accordance with United States Department of Transportation advanced Paramedic training program.
- Knowledge and ability to successfully pass a comprehensive orientation and testing process approved by the Emergency Services Medical Director.
- Ability to gain knowledge of the street system and geography.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn and operate relatively complex equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform prolonged and difficult work under adverse conditions.
- Ability to learn a wide variety of duties and methods within a reasonable training period.
- Ability and willingness to learn new methods and techniques.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions are filled on an as-needed basis. No phone calls please. You must successfully complete the FireTEAM entrance exam as well as the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT).
Both the FireTEAM and the CPAT is administered by the National Testing Network (NTN). Enrollment for these can be accomplished at the NTN web page at www.nationaltestingnetwork.com. Must be a non-user of tobacco or tobacco products for at least one year immediately preceding application, as defined in FS633.34.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Six (6) months of experience as a Paramedic or one (1) year of experience as an EMT. Paramedic or EMT experience may be in the pre-hospital setting or working in a hospital-based emergency room.
Those candidates who do not meet the minimum experience criteria MAY still be considered, however, if selected, would be offered a position as a Firefighter/EMT, which is at a lower pay grade for the amount of time necessary to meet the minimum pre-hospital experience requirement.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Qualified applicants selected for interview are REQUIRED to bring copies of their full driving record; Current registration by the State of Florida as a Paramedic; Current certification by the American Heart Association, American Red Cross or American Safety and Health Institute in BLS and ACLS; Certificate of Compliance from the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training; Social Security Card, Valid driver's license.
