The Firearm Design Engineer will work directly under and report to the Shadow Systems Engineering Supervisor. This role has a significant impact on the brand reputation of Shadow Systems and the performance of our products. The Firearm Design Engineer supports the development of Shadow Systems products by providing input on product design from the ideation phase through formal models and drawings of the product. A passion for quality work, a willingness to put in extra hours, and desire to be part of a multi-functional, close knit team are critical. Our engineers are expected to manage their workload to project plans and timelines, keep accurate records of revisions and changes, and understand relevant manufacturing technologies, surface treatments, and materials. This is a fun but often challenging position that will allow the chosen candidate to be a part of the future of Shadow Systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned):
· Design and prototype new firearms components and accessories
· Create and review Technical Design Packages using CAD tools (SolidWorks)
· Continuously improve existing designs based on internal and external product feedback
· Seek and incorporate manufacturability input from adjacent teams during design process
· Identify and execute engineering process improvement initiatives
· Lead disciplined risk assessment process for new product designs
· Recommend and execute test procedures
· Provide technical input to Customer Service and Marketing teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
· 5+ years of related experience and/or training preferred
· Extensive experience in SolidWorks preferred
· Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
· Capable of performing Failure Mode Analysis
· Knowledge of materials and manufacturing methods used in firearm products
· Experience with firearms design and implementation preferred
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
· Excellent written and verbal communications ability required
· Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in fast-paced environment
· Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment that includes machinery, chemicals, bright lighting, and noises
· Must be able to stand, sit, and periodically lift items weighing up to 20 lbs throughout the day
