Fire Sprinkler Technician - (PFO0004OI) Your Impact:

Jacobs is a prime government contractor providing facilities support services for NASA Ames Research Center. Ames is one of ten NASA field centers, located in the heart of California's Silicon Valley. For over 80 years, Ames has led NASA in conducting world-class research and development in aeronautics, exploration technology, and science. Our support to Ames includes facilities maintenance, operations, maintenance engineering, and environmental and emergency services.

We are looking for a motivated Fire Sprinkler Technician to join our team and support our efforts with Fire Sprinkler system service and repair.  This is a full-time union position, with several benefits including job stability, 401(k), Pension, Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Disability Benefits, 11 Holidays, Vacation, and PTO.  The rate of pay is $51.76.

Job duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Test, maintain, and repair Fire Sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA 25
  • Install, repair, replace and Fire Sprinkler control valves, check valves and other various appurtenances
  • Coordinate testing schedules with facility managers and on-site fire alarm technicians
  • Install and repair Fire Sprinkler heads and sprinkler piping as needed
  • Cut, ream, thread and groove all sizes of sprinkler pipe as needed for projects and repairs
  • Perform minor fire pump, tamper switch, flow switch and monitoring devices repairs
  • Isolate and drain sprinkler systems to allow outside contractors to perform necessary work
  • Complete all required documentation, including test sheets, work orders, etc.
  • Comply with government regulations and company policies regarding health and safety
  • Assist in maintaining a database of the location of all zone valves, spare head boxes, zone cards, drain valves, backflow devices, and other items of importance to Fire Sprinkler repair and maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

 Here's What You'll Need: 

Ideally, here is what you will need:

  • 5+ years of experience in the Fire Sprinkler industry performing maintenance and repairs to sprinkler and suppression systems
  • Thorough working knowledge of general work safety procedures and other applicable regulations
  • Ability to work a standard 40-hour workweek, and remain on-call as needed
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA 25, State, and Local codes
  • Ability to understand and apply codes, blueprints, diagrams, and engineering drawings
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Successful candidate will be subject to a drug screen and background check.

Essential Functions

Unusual or Special Physical Requirements of Position

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time while operating machinery and performing job duties.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers.
  • Frequently climb ladders and scaffolds, and occasionally sit, twist, bend, stoop, squat.
  • Required use of uniforms and PPE, including but not limited to eye, head, foot, hearing and breathing safety equipment.
  • Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as plywood sheets, framing members, and other building/construction materials.
  • Work may take place in shops where there are moderate to high noise levels.
  • Work may take place in environments containing sawdust, glue fumes and hazards associated with woodworking and/or related power equipment.

Description of Work Environment

  • Both indoor and outdoor field work will be performed, which will include occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions.

Equipment and Machines Involved in Work Tasks 

  • Regular use of office equipment and radio.
  • Regular use of vehicles to travel around the campus.
  • Use of power, hand tools, and heavy equipment associated with the trade.

Criticality of Attendance 

  • Work Schedule: Regular work hours (Monday – Friday) with on-call an overtime work as needed.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Occasional travel required.
