Summary:
A global energy storage company is looking to hire a Fire Protection Engineer Intern in Herndon, VA. This is a Hybrid Remote/in-office position that will be supporting the company's Product Development Hardware Engineering team. The ideal candidate for this position would be a college senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a graduate student in the same field.
Schedule: The position offers flexibility to accommodate students school schedules. During breaks, it requires full-time, in-office availability. While classes are in session, the schedule shifts to part-time Hybrid Remote and in-office.
Work Environment: Electrical Lab
Main Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Fire Protection Engineer team to assist in the preparation and review of test reports.
- Provide constructive feedback on reports and address queries related to the test reports.
- Conduct hands-on testing, with a focus on large-scale testing of fire alarms in adherence to UL 9540A standards.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of test procedures and outcomes.
- Perform compliance reviews to ensure that all testing activities align with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Support research and development testing, including but not limited to gas detection testing and fire alarm system testing.
- Draft and execute test plans, recording and reporting findings.
- Act as the main/supporting liaison between internal stakeholders, including engineering, project development, procurement, etc.
- Other related duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate or graduate student in Fire Protection Engineering is preferred
- Knowledge of equipment utilized for the detection of fire and gas detection equipment.
- Ability to perform hands-on testing with various fire alarm equipment
- An understanding of Fire protection designs including fire detection system design for equipment.
- Familiarity with NFPA 72.
- Experience with multiple mechanical, electrical and controls systems preferred.
- Knowledge of energy storage technology offerings and suppliers preferred.
- Excellent communication skills
