- Determine work assignments, locations, hours and tasks of assigned personnel
- Liaison with other city departments and FMO's to ensure communication and efficiency
- Review plan documents of new and remodel construction for fire code compliance
- Field visits for verification of findings/applicability of fire code specifics as needed
- Ensure accuracy of code application for large projects or those of a complex nature
- Assist in development of division budget and manage allocated funds to meet goals of division
- Develop, review and update division policies for accuracy and applicability for duties of office
- Investigation of citizen complaints related to fire code violations/hazards
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws and city policies
- Coordinate with city departments to ensure efficient development of new businesses
- Contribute to success of Fire Marshal's office by performing other duties as assigned

- Subject to after-hours response for investigations and other reasons deemed necessary
- The requirements of this position are Mon- Friday work week, regular business hours
- Subject to 24-hour recall: The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work during emergency situations (defined as any natural or man-made disaster that may or may not necessitate the relocation of City personnel or citizens). In the event of an emergency and/or a required evacuation, the incumbent may be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties for the benefit of the general public including services or duties different from those performed in the normal course and scope of the position.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING (Certification/Licensure): The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The City reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.
- Associate degree in Fire Science or related field
- (5) years fire investigation and inspection experience
- TCFP Structural Fire Fighter - Advanced
- TCFP Instructor - II
- TCFP Fire Inspector - Advanced
- TCFP Arson Investigator - Advanced
- TCOLE Peace Officer - Advanced
- TCFP Hazardous Materials Technician certification (within one (1) year of employment)
- TFCA FSCEO certification (within three (3) years of employment)
- Preferred: Five years supervisory experience
