Description
The Coral Springs Parkland Fire Department has a diverse work force who are Committed to providing the highest level of professional service to our citizens, businesses, and the visitors we serve. Part of this commitment is to provide outreach to universities in order for students to observe general operations of the department. Our collegian internship program is designed to allow college participants an opportunity to observe our fire department, learn about different careers within the fire service, and mentor with trained professionals. The Fire Department will aid selected Interns obtaining college credits.
Examples of Duties
Interns will be exposed to multiple area within the Fire Department to gain insight into how each department plays a necessary part in our mission to preserve life and property through emergency medical services, fire suppression, risk reduction, public education, and community partnerships. A typical internship will include exposure to Fire Administration, Community Risk Reduction, Public Education, Emergency Medical Services, Training, Logistics and the Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety, however, assignments are contingent on operational demands at the time of the internship.
ScheduleThe Coral Springs Parkland Fire Department Internship program is designed to create an opportunity for students to have meaningful work experiences that tie to their programs of study. The program is an 8-week paid internship during the 2024 summer semester. Students must be available to intern from June 17 - August 9, 2024. The hours for each intern will be established by the unit supervisor in collaboration with the intern so that any other school requirements are not impacted.
Compensation
Interns will be compensated as follows:
Undergraduate Students: $15.00 / hour
Graduate Students: $18.00 / hour
Academic credit can be earned in addition to compensation above but is not required to participate in the internship.
Typical Qualifications
Applicants must:
  1. Currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior class standing or Graduate student as of the start of Summer 2024 semester.
  2. Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  3. Provide their most recent official transcripts (will be requested at a later time)
  4. Possess a valid state driver's license.
  5. No significant traffic violations, or criminal activity in background.
  6. Have not used any drugs (including steroids) without a doctor's prescription or any illegal drugs within 24 months of the date of the application.
