The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Manager reports to and works closely with the Director of FP&A to implement the financial vision for the organization, primarily funded by federal, state and city funding agencies. Playing a leadership role within the FP&A team, the Manager actively contributes to Finance Department meetings and liaises with other LAS (Legal Aid Society) departments. The position entails providing oversight and management of the Financial Planning and Analysis team, including conducting the necessary financial analysis required for annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and multi-year Financial Planning.
This position requires exceptional analytical skills with advanced proficiency in MS Excel to effectively develop budgets, closely monitor spending, conduct cash flow analysis, and forecast program activity associated with grants and contracts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage direct reports in analyzing program activity at macro level and grant/contract levels
- Assist the Director of FP&A in implementing high standards and success metrics, ensuring accountability
- Develop, train, and provide guidance to the FP&A Analyst team to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, and consistency
- Support the Director of FP&A in refining, and implementing financial systems, tools, structures, and processes
- Participate in recruitment, hiring, and performance evaluations
- Manage team schedules, priorities, deadlines, assignments, and tasks
- Ensure compliance with all Legal Aid Society’s policies, procedures, and guidelines across the team
- Manage the development, implementation, and delivery of Board-level reporting
- Manage the preparation and review of monthly forecasts and analysis
- Assist in preparing the Society’s fiscal year budget
- Document procedures and ensure consistent record-keeping standards are applied to confidential and sensitive information
- Coordinate with FP&A’s leadership in building models and designing reports for budgeting, monitoring spending, and forecasting program activities Coordinate with General Accounting and Grants & Contracts units to ensure accurate allocations are applied
- Serve as a liaison with Practice areas regarding program finance activity
- Lead meetings with Practice areas to review programmatic activity and recommend adjustments to maximize spending in the most cost effective and efficient ways while sensitive to programmatic restrictions and to the Society’s policies
- Coordinate preparation of information needed for RFPs/applications for grants and contracts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Identify and assess use of third-party financial software packages to enhance grants and contracts documentation and financial analysis
- Review and approve requests for Finance Committee Approval related to grants and contracts.
- Collaborate with CFO to develop, maintain and distribute ad-hoc reports and financial models.
- Focus on frequent and critical special project
- BA/BS degree required, with a focus in Finance, Accounting, Budgeting, or related field
- 6+ years of relevant work experience. Nonprofit experience preferred
- Working proficiency in Microsoft Office environment, especially Excel
- Ability to synthesis information quickly, distill important insights, and present a compelling narrative
- Experience with Financial Edge or Vena Solutions is strongly preferred
- Ability to delegate tasks and escalate critical time sensitive issues promptly
- Strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and thoroughness
- Capacity to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and determining which priority levels are most important
- Ability to meet deadlines which may require a flexible schedule, as extended working hours may be required

SALARY TRANSPARENCY
The posting reflects the range of potential salaries for the role. The specific salary offers will be dependent on candidate qualifications, including collectively bargained salary steps for unionized roles.
Salary Range/ Salary:$120,000 to $128,000
