Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Finance Grants Manager to join the Finance Department!
We seek a team-oriented individual to join HCZ's Finance Department and help it carry out its responsibility for managing a total budget of $150M+, including many important donor relationships. Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analytics, the Finance Grants Manager will be responsible for project managing and executing the financial side of an end-to-end grants process, including a specific contribution to the accounting function, and serve as an expert advisor to the organization in optimizing the grant portfolio.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Five years of experience in a non-profit setting
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (accounting, nonprofit management, business, finance, or similar)
- At least 5 years’ experience in a not-for-profit setting, preferably with both federal and private grant experience
- Excellent writing and communication skills and partnership orientation, including translation of financial concepts to colleagues with varying levels of financial acumen
- Ability to prioritize proactively, stay organized and balance complex grant portfolio
- Ability to work within a team to accomplish goals
- Experience working with financial systems such as MIP a plus
- Advanced experience with Excel
What you'll do
Execute preparation, quality control, and maintenance of grant proposal financial documents in coordination with the Development team, including the creation of grant budgets aligned with the organizational budget.
Develop and maintain a collaborative working relationship and serve as primary day-to-day liaison between Finance, Development and Program partners, proactively coordinating with those partners to ensure milestones and deadlines are met and to create informed grant financial reports.
Monitor grant spending and progress in collaboration with both Finance and Development departments to ensure excellent donor reporting that reflects the spending, per grant reporting requirements. Maintain an organized and systemic approach for grant tracking (from a financial perspective) across the organization including uniform reporting and fund tracking.
Ensure that all grant financial activity is accounted for in compliance with grant award letters and relevant policies and regulations (US GAAP, NYPMIFA, OMB circulars, grantor and/or agency specific requirements and organizational accounting policies and procedures), and proactively stay up to date on changes to regulations.
Manage accounting function related to grants management, ensuring GAAP compliance for all grants. This includes a working knowledge of grant treatment on the accounting records, maintaining the monthly net assets schedule, and annual review of 990 Schedule B.
Work with Director of FP&A to understand relationship between this role and other FP&A roles, including relationship between grant budgeting and reporting and departmental/organizational budgeting and reporting.
