Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Purpose: Under the general direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or designee, The Controller is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the system of financial controls, including general accounting, investment accounting, tax compliance and planning, budgeting, banking, payroll, and benefits. the Controller oversees the day-to-day fiscal activities, Implements, maintains accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that follow Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP). The Controller also coordinates, prepares, and reviews all information needed for the annual audit with external auditors and assists the CFO with the preparation of financial statements and provide leadership, guidance, and training to the finance department staff.
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in non-profit administration.
- Minimum of 3 years in a leadership and supervisory role.
- Experience with Fund Ez accounting systems a plus.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Microsoft applications.
- Track record of effective collaboration within a direct service organization with a complex array of programs and funding sources.

- Ability to analyze financial statements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains accounting system to ensure GAAP compliance and financial reporting.
- Provides training and guidance to the finance staff including accounts receivable, accounts payable/payroll and grant manager.
- Leads and supports the finance team through monthly close.
- Implements and ensures adherence to all accounting policies & procedures; periodically reviews, updates and/or develops new/missing policies as needed.
- Reviews and analyze financial systems, chart of accounts, and provide ongoing maintenance of systems to ensure transaction accuracy.
- In conjunction with the Director of Revenue Cycle Management, implements procedures and reconciliation for Accounts Receivable to ensure that the Health Home AR and grant aging remains current, and funds are collected in a timely manner.
- Responsible for treasury operations, vendor payments and the weekly disbursement of Health Home pass-through revenue to the CMAs.
- Prepares financial statements as well as all supporting schedules for CBC, CBC IPA and IMSNY.
- Assists the CFO with the annual external audit, single audit, CFR submission and 990 tax fillings.
- Partner with the CFO with preparing the agency’s annual budget.
- Collaborates with VPs and senior management team to provide support and analytics for monthly, quarterly, and yearly comparisons.
- Work jointly with the fiscal grants manager to analyze and forecast grant spending and make recommendations.
- Supports the CEO or CFO with various tasks as is deemed necessary.
- Performs other job related tasks as directed.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Microsoft office applications, including strong working knowledge of Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and ask for help when needed.
- Ability to manage resources, which includes money, material, time, and people.
- Ability to participate on a team to accomplish tasks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and preparation and understanding of financial statements
- Strong analytical and technical skills; highly organized with an attention to detail.
