Financial Controller
Currently, we are looking to fill our Controller position who will report directly to our President and General Manager and oversee our finance department. This hands-on role will help develop strategies and standards related to the financial responsibilities of the organization, as well as ensure the day-to-day running of the finance department. The ideal candidate will have a valid CPA, CMA license or equivalent experience in the industry. This position if full-time, and in office Monday through Friday in our Fremont, CA office.
Responsibilities
- Develops and executes strategies and standards related to accounting policy, financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, budgeting, and financial systems and controls to maintain strong financial health and fiscal discipline within the organization.
- Supervise the month-end, quarterly, and annual accounting close process, including General Ledger, Job Costing, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, Billing, Collections, and Weekly Payroll.
- Oversees the preparation of financial statements and filings in compliance with GAAP for senior management and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards, tax laws, and regulations.
- Conducts ad hoc analyses of the organization's finances and presents findings to executive leadership for decision making and planning.
- Establish and maintain effective internal control procedures to safeguard the company's assets and ensure accuracy in financial transactions and reporting.
- Optimize cash flow by managing receivables, payables, and working capital effectively. Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department/division heads to develop accurate and realistic budgets aligned with the company's strategic objectives.
- Conduct financial analysis and provide insightful recommendations to support business decisions, cost optimization, and revenue enhancement.
- Work closely with department heads to analyze financial performance, identify trends, and develop action plans for improvement.
- Assist with employee benefit and profit-sharing plans; provide accounting system set up and support when needed.
- Lead and mentor the accounting and finance team, fostering a culture of continuous learning, growth, and teamwork.
- Reporting of all quarterly payroll tax returns, sales tax returns and annual reporting of Forms 1099 and property tax statements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 10 or more years of experience (preferably with 3-5 years’ experience in the construction industry). Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, reporting requirements, and US GAAP.
- Certificates/Licenses: CPA or CMA or equivalent experience required.
- Computer Skills: Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (especially in Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and accounting software (especially Trimble Viewpoint Spectrum and FileMaker Pro).
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work with and interface with a wide variety of people including, clients, employees, other members of management, and agencies. Ability to build collaborative relationships and adapt to a dynamic work environment and meet deadlines.
- Leadership: Leadership skills, ability to drive strategic direction, and to influence others in a desired direction. Ability to develop and mentor others. Strong oral and written communication skills.
