BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides financial education and housing counseling for various issues for individuals and families. Provides financial information to community organizations and conducts financial education workshops.
Serves as an active Site Coordinator for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA)
TYPICAL DUTIES
Provides counseling to individuals and families including, but not limited to their personal financial situation, debt management, savings, housing counseling and credit report review.
Provides accurate, relevant and helpful information to assist clients and potential clients via telephone, virtual, email or in person.
Conducts and manages Financial Education workshops provides information based on six hours of classroom instruction. Analyzes all financial needs of clients and provides follow up.
Provides community involvement seminars regarding financial education and/or programs that individuals need to be made aware of. Participates in community presentations in conjunction with community agencies, governmental agencies, schools and non-profit agencies.
Conducts reality fairs, life simulations and career day presentations to our community.
Determines clients' eligibility for home purchase assistance (grants) including down payment and closing costs assistance during the intake and interview process.
Maintains a minimum of active HUD case files per year.
Helps develop a financial plan to work towards eligibility when clients don't qualify for home purchase assistance due to money management issues.
Ensures clients approved for home purchase and down payment assistance grants receive the proper financial education and certifications.
Develops and maintains client files and contracts.
Counsels clients to understand how lenders determine mortgage readiness and financial stability.
Negotiates with servicers and lending institutions on behalf of clients for repayment plans, modifications, and deed-in-lieu of additional time to solve the problem.
Maintains and updates various client files and notes on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
Serves as a tax preparer for current and previous year's tax returns and amendments for taxpayers as needed. Serves as site coordinator and tax instructor.
May provide VITA outreach, recruitment, registration and site coordination as needed.
Maintain and understand compliance to ensure that work complies with GECU's established policies, procedures and applicable regulations, to include Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Member Identification Program (MIP), and Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC).
Other duties as may be assigned or required in connection with the general operation of the credit union.

Level III
Requirements
CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field or equivalent with three (3) to five (5) years similar or related experience, or three (3) to five (5) years of lending experience.
Knowledge of GECU and HOAP policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements is required.
Member focused with exceptional follow-up and attention to detail.
Knowledge of HUD procedure policies and programs.
Willingness to participate in training and certification programs and ongoing continuing education
High scanning ability and mental alertness.
Advanced knowledge of tax laws and specializing in low income tax issues.
Experience with tax returns using the IRS provided software.
Good oral/written communication and organizational skills. Fluent in English and Spanish.
Must be able to work with numerous interruptions.
Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software; familiarity with data analysis or audit software is desirable.
Ability and flexibility to multi-task, prioritize, and organize multiple projects/tasks concurrently while meeting established deadlines.
Assertive, resourceful self-starter with analytical, troubleshooting skills; can understand and express appropriate levels of urgency using good oral and written communication skills.
Good judgment skills.
High degree of integrity and respect for confidentiality and privacy of information is required.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Must obtain Housing Counseling Certification.
Completes 30 hours of continuing education every 3 years to keep Housing Counseling required certification.
Be able to present to an audience and stand for more than 4 hours at a time.
Be able to attend events before and after normal working hours. Must have transportation to commute to events.
Requires sitting for the majority of the day, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, and kneeling occasionally; reaching above and below shoulder level frequently.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
Providing quality service is the primary responsibility of this position. Quality service means treating members and coworkers with respect and courtesy at all levels whether in person or by telephone as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Hours of availability: Monday- Friday: 8:00 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.
Saturday: 8:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m.
Some events might be out normal working hours. Must be able to attend events before and after normal working hours.
