Department Information
The School of Physics at Georgia Tech currently has 44 academic faculty, and its graduate program is ranked 21st in the nation by US News and World Report. The School has a broad research program with strengths in astrophysics, condensed matter, atomic, molecular and optical physics, physics of living systems, nonlinear science and soft matter physics. The School is also a key player in interdisciplinary initiatives established within Georgia Tech, such as quantum systems, neuroscience, microbial dynamics, planetary sciences, and data science/machine learning. Its diverse student body comprises more than 130 graduate students and 275 undergraduate majors

Job Summary

Perform financial records maintenance and report preparation and reconciliation within the business area of an academic/research unit or non-academic department. Coordinate those activities with other campus units. Work may involve records, reports and proposals related to funding from various sources, budgeting and accounting. This position will interact with on a consistent basis with: unit management, staff and co-workers. This position typically will advise and counsel: NA This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Within an academic/research unit, prepare financial data related to proposals, grants and contracts, general appropriations, endowments and other funds.

Job Duty 2 -
Prepare data for use in budget amendments and other budget related reporting.

Job Duty 3 -
Collect, reconcile and audit monthly unit expense transactions.

Job Duty 4 -
Process travel requests to include review for accuracy and appropriate supporting documentation.

Job Duty 5 -
Process payroll, time documents and personnel action forms.

Job Duty 6 -
Coordinate unit financial related actions with Institute financial units.

Job Duty 7 -
Post transactions to internal ledgers.

Job Duty 8 -
Generate check requests.

Job Duty 9 -
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
Two to three years of job-related experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of and skill in applying general accounting principles and practices within a university business environment. Additionally required are attention to detail and accuracy and use of office and specialized accounting related computer applications.

Other Information

Salary range: $25.00 - $27.50 / hourly

Location: Hybrid (Atlanta, GA) based on the School of Physics needs

Job grade: A6

This is not a supervisory position.
This position does have financial responsibilities.
No, this position will not be required to drive.
This role is considered a position of trust.
This position does not require a purchasing card (P-Card).
This position will not travel.
This position does not require security clearance.

Other Information

The School of Physics is seeking a dependable, detail oriented, problem-solving individual to assume the role of Financial Administrator II. The Financial Administrator II provides a wide range of administrative support to the Finance Office and School of Physics financial administrative activities. This position reports to the Finance Manager II.

Some details of the duties for this position include:

  • Supporting the Finance Manager II with faculty, student awards and data preparation for budget amendments,
  • Auditing monthly expense transactions in a specific area
  • Reviewing travel and expense reimbursement requests in Workday
  • Initiating funding updates and cost transfers for faculty and hourly employees in OneUSG
