This position is located at our Yankton, South Dakota office with potential to be hybrid-remote.
About this Financial Accounting Manager Role
Apply principles of financial management to (1) provide information assuring that day-to-day operations are carried out in accordance with established accounting principles, policies, and objectives, (2) supervise the day-to-day operation of the Accounts Payable and General Ledger accounting areas, and (3) identify management informational needs, and refine accounting structures or reports accordingly.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities - Financial Accounting Manager
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budgeting, and accounting.
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation of financial statements and reports.
  • Direct the installation and maintenance of accounting records for transaction activity.
  • Direct the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts payable, revenue distribution, depreciation, property, and operating expenses.
  • Direct internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls.
  • Establish system controls for new financial systems and generate ideas to improve existing systems.
  • Coordinate preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting.
  • Review financial statements with management personnel.
  • Direct the installation and maintenance of new accounting, property, and other related procedures and controls.
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation of the annual corporate income tax package.
  • Executes internal Sarbanes-Oxley control responsibilities with diligence and integrity. These internal control responsibilities are communicated to the person fulfilling this position, and periodic feedback is provided as it relates to performance of internal control responsibilities.

  • Qualifications - Financial Accounting Manager
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
    Education/Experience:
    B.A., B.S. or B.B.A. degree in Accounting and five or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    Language Ability:
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
    Math Ability:
    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
    Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    Computer Skills:
    Word processing, Spreadsheets, Accounting software, General Ledger, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Internet software, E-mail, Manufacturing software, Database software. Familiarity with an ERP system preferred. Report writing skills, preferably with Crystal Reports.
    Certificates and Licenses:
    CPA or CMA certification preferred.
    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    Directly supervises 2 employees in the Financial Accounting Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    Office Environment
    Ability to perform duties in a normal business office environment and use the associated office machines and equipment, with minor exposure to industrial noise, fumes, smoke, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
