Summary Statement
The City of Boise DFA Internship Program is a unique opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to gain valuable experience in the areas of accounting, budgeting (FP&A), treasury finance, and strategic planning and project delivery (SPPD). Interns will have the opportunity to work on real-world projects, learn from experienced professionals, and develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their careers.
Essential Functions
Program Objectives
The objectives of the City of Boise Internship Program are to:
- Gain exposure to the accounting, FP&A, treasury, and strategic planning functions
- Assist with various projects and tasks within each department
- Develop and enhance financial modeling and analytical skills
- Help interns determine if a career in municipal finance is right for them
Internship Activities
Interns will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, such as:
Accounting
- Assisting with the preparation of financial statements
- Analyze and report on upcoming GASB accounting standards
Treasury
- Build a property tax model
- Build and enhance cash forecasting models
Budget (FP&A)
- Conducting financial analysis
- Preparing and presenting financial reports
Strategic Planning and Project Delivery
- Assisting with the development of strategic plans
- Shadowing experienced professionals
- Attending departmental meetings

Internship Requirements
To be eligible for the City of Boise Internship Program, applicants must be:
- Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong academic record or graduated in the last 12 months from an accredited university
- Majoring in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
- Have a strong interest in accounting, budget( FP&A), treasury, or strategic planning
- Be able to work up to 20 hours per week (negotiable)
- Be able to commit to the entire internship program
