Position Purpose:Reporting to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, the Thayer Finance Director leads efficient and effective financial management, budgeting, financial reporting, and operational support to advance the academic mission of Thayer. Partners with academic and administrative leaders across Thayer and the broader Dartmouth community to identify and implement operational and fiscal efficiencies.
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business administration preferred.

Description:
Financial Management
- In conjunction with the Dean and CFAO, develops, articulates and plans for alignment with the School’s resources with identified strategic priorities and operational goals.
- Presents accurate and concise financial information to a variety of audiences, including but not limited to the Thayer senior leadership and the Thayer Board of Advisors.
- Communicates with and collaborates with fiscal peers across Dartmouth and actively participates in College-wide meetings and projects.
- Communicates regularly with Thayer managers and works with them to improve financial management and operations across the School.
- Recruits, manages and trains Finance Office staff; establishes priorities, monitors workloads and facilitates professional development opportunities.
- Identifies problem areas and recommends operational adjustments that may be necessary to minimize budgetary overruns.
- Responsible for institutional compliance with applicable financial policies and procedures. Advises the Finance Office team and others on best practices and potential areas of risk.
- Ensures Thayer funds are used in accordance with donor restrictions and/or institutional policies governing the use of such funds. Responsible for overseeing regular reviews of endowment, gift, and reserve funds. Advises Thayer faculty and staff on use of funds and mentors the Finance Office on best practices.
- Manages the annual fiscal year-end open and close processes.
- Develops and implements internal controls and ensures compliance.
- Maintains, streamlines and communicates the Thayer chart of accounts.

Description:
Budget and Projections
- Leads the annual budget process, collaborates with Thayer departments and leadership to develop annual operating and capital budgets as well as quarterly projections for the School.
- Works with the Thayer Facilities Director to develop and maintain a multi-year capital plan, an annual capital budget and quarterly expense projections.
- Works collaboratively with Thayer Student Affairs, Research Administration, and other departments to verify student budget accuracy and projections; may provide direct assistance to students on financial concerns.
- Monitors financial performance against budgets and prepares detailed explanations of variances.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of a long-range financial model.
- Ensures accurate and timely financial projections and clearly communicates changes or adjustments; advises leadership on the impact of these changes or adjustments.
- Proactively identifies and implements improvements to the budget and projection processes.
- Communicates budget and projections to the Thayer faculty, staff, leadership and Central Finance stakeholders.

Description:
Financial Operations
- Works with others to continuously review and improve financial processes across Thayer and Dartmouth more broadly. Identifies areas of need in financial processes and works with stakeholders across the institution to implement improvements.
- Ensures timely response, professional follow through and high customer satisfaction levels to the Thayer community.
- Oversees all Thayer financial transactions, ensuring compliance with Dartmouth College policies and procedures.
- Works closely with Thayer HR to ensure coordination around human resource and payroll transactions.
- Collaborates with Research Administration to ensure financial transactions are compliant with sponsor policies and regulations.
- Collaborates with Central units including the Admin Provost Finance Center, Human Resources and Finance units.
- Develops and implements Thayer financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Dartmouth College and external requirements and regulations.
- Manages the financial and operational system security accesses for all Thayer employees.
- Represents Thayer Finance at new student orientations.
