Overview

The national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), based in Louisville Kentucky, serve with mid-councils, congregations, worshipping communities, and partner organizations to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ. Approximately 400 individuals, diverse in race, age, gender, sexual orientation, faith, skills, and more, come together as colleagues to work for a world where justice reigns, peace prevails, and God’s love extends to all people. This community comprises the staff of several national entities: the Office of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Investment and Loan Corporation, the Presbyterian Mission Agency, the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Presbyterian Women, and the Administrative Services Group.

Basic Commitment: This position calls for a commitment to the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as noted in its theological confessions, the Book of Order, and the actions of the General Assembly.

Position Purpose: The Finance and Administration Mission Specialist will provide financial administration and compliance for the Theology Formation and Evangelism Ministry Area. This position will also support and collaborate with ministry area staff and other departments to meet work role objectives and responsibilities.

Roles and Responsibilities (list in order of priority):

  • Work closely with the Manager for Finance and Administration, and in collaboration with Accounting and Finance, to maintain ministry financial transactions, assist in biennial budgeting, and monitor annual budgets.
  • Review and process Theology Formation and Evangelism accounting functions, including web invoicing and web purchasing, credit cards, and month-end reports, and preparing journal vouchers accordingly.
  • Provide coordination of Stony Point Center accounting functions, including web invoicing and web purchasing, credit cards, and preparing journal vouchers accordingly.
  • Assist in providing guidance in administration to TFE staff for effective missions and providing oversight to ensure staff remain within the budget constraints and ensure compliance with PMA policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Manage monthly reporting and review of budget and expense reports. Providing analysis and regular reporting of financial information.
  • Support Financial Aid for Services in processing scholarship awards for payment distribution.
  • In consultation and collaboration with other departments and agencies, ensure up-to-date policies and procedures are communicated to Theology, Formation & Evangelism.
  • Provide support and project duties, assist with onboarding new hires, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Under general supervision, performs work with high judgment and discretion and serves as backup to other staff when necessary.
  • Provide representation at the PYT table and onsite at the event as a financial specialist.

Essential Position Requirements:

  • Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4-7 years of relevant office experience, preferably in a non-profit or faith-based organization
  • Experience providing support for executive offices, non-profit boards, and major organizational meetings extremely helpful.
  • Ability to understand and perform basic financial and budgeting processes.
  • Excellent technical, analytical, and financial skills
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and function with discretion, tact, and confidentiality in working with staff in the Presbyterian Center, other PCUSA entities, and other constituencies.
  • Ability to problem solving, multi-task and demonstrate integrative thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and deliver results without close supervision or support.
  • Experience managing and housing documents electronically.
  • Excellent verbal and written (grammar and spelling included) skills; ability to proof and edit their own work.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technology to impact workflow and efficiency.
  • Experience working with diverse groups and cultures

  • Ability to speak one or more languages other than English very helpful

Physical Requirements: This is largely a sedentary position; however, filing, storing, and retrieving files may require bending, standing, and lifting. Other roles of the position require the ability to see, hear, write, type, speak, and move from one location within the building to another while performing tasks. This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday. Overnight, out of town travel is not required on a regular basis but may be required occasionally.
